Here we have yet another JFK rocker. Toy versions of his rocking chair were popular when he was President. Can you imagine any other president or premier having so many toy versions of them?
This quite complex toy is marked "1963 Kamar Inc. Los Angeles Made In Japan". I saw this pic on a sale so archived it for later. I wonder what the little newspaper says?Do you have any JFK or Presidential souvenir toys?
I do not think I have any Presidential toys, but I do have the Airfix Washington's Army set from 1971. This includes a mounted figure, who might be Washington himself. As far as kits are concerned, Airfix did a mounted figure of Washington in 1974, which was part of the 54mm Collector's Series. Before that Aurora did a kit of Washington Crossing the Delaware in 1965, this was a companion piece to their President Kennedy in the Oval Office kit. Tamiya did a set of WW2 Generals in 1/35th (and later 1/48th) that included Eisenhower, but that was before he became President. Marx did a complete set of US President figures, I believe that it went up to Lyndon Johnson. Apart from all the Kennedy toys, I should think Washington and Lincoln would be the next most popular, and perhaps Teddy Roosevelt ? Other than that, most Presidents were a fairly boring lot as far as toys were concerned. I suppose collecting Presidential memorabilia must be as popular in America, as collecting Royal memorabilia is in Britain ?
