Have you got any of these?
From You Tube is another video, showing the Imai Captain Scarlet Figure Series. A range of very simple kits, with a figure from the Captain Scarlet series, and a small vehicle. Each kit is moulded in the main uniform colour, a second colour (usually white, unless the uniform is white), and a rather yellowish 'flesh' for the head and hands, except in the case of the Angel.
1 Captain Scarlet with Spectrum Patrol Car
2 Colonel White with Cloudbase
3 Captain Blue with Passenger Jet
4 Captain Magenta with Maximum Security Vehicle
5 Captain Ochre with Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle
6 Angel with Angel Interceptor
At the end is a look at the built-up models. Very simple and toy-like, but they look like fun. According to the Scalemates site, the kits were originally released in 1968, but these models look to be later issues.

I bought the full set back in the 80s, painted them up and put them in a display case alongside their boxes.
ReplyDeleteIt all made for a very nice pop-art style display. Sadly it was a casualty of a wife-directed downsizing purge and I got rid of it. I still have a vague regret, but I do have some photos somewhere, so I can still look at it.
Have you had any wife-directed downsizing purges, Readers?
I think I'd downsize my wife before I'd allow my wife to downsize my toys.
DeleteThat's probably why I'm not married and never really wanted to be.
Glad to hear you took the time to paint that intriguing set of figures. I have neither the skills nor patience for figures.
DeleteInteresting video. Just a thought- I wonder if the figures and the model vehicles are actually by the same hand- the figures are not that good, while the vehicles are well represented. It isn't uncommon for technical illustrators who draw vehicles to be less skilled at human figures (Roy Cross, for example, who drew Airfix kit box art and Eagle cutaways), and I wonder if it's the same thing again with the mould/master maker, who is better at hardware. If so, it might also explain why some older aircraft kits had really badly sculpted pilot figures.
ReplyDeleteI never gravitated towards the Imai CS figure kits, both because they looked kind of cheesy, but primarily because I’m no good at painting figures! Glad to see somebody did a spiffy job of dressing them up, though, this guy knows what he’s doing!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone want to share their a picture of their painted Captain Scarlet kits with Moonbase readers?
