This image online really brought back memories.
I loved that very Royal Mail stamp album as a young philatelist.
The train at the bottom was always a draw.
I can clearly recall the stamps I collected in the Sixties too. So iconic. So many different pictures. I'll have to find some images of them online.
Did you have a stamp album like this?
My dad was a keen philatelist and he got that album, along with loads of others. I loved the train and especially the rocket!
ReplyDeleteA fellow stamp collector your dad! Excellent. It was a great album. Wish I still had it. I can see the stamps in my my mind even now. Magyar, CCCP and the French chicken to name a few.
DeleteI never had a stamp album as a child, but bought one as an adult and put some stamps from the '60s and some more modern ones in it. I even finally bought a stamp collectors set from the famous D.J. Hanson, who advertised in British comics for decades. If you wish, you can read about it here: http://kidr77.blogspot.com/2012/05/this-sure-takes-some-lickin.html
ReplyDeleteI'll check it out Kid. Love the title!
DeleteAbsolutely. As a budding philatelist in the late 70's my speciality was the UK and the British Commonwealth. I also had a standing order for new stamps released by the Royal Mail, both as mint specimens and on First Day Covers. Taught me many great things, like the lyrics for The Twelve Days of Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIt all ended when the new values of £1, £2, and £5 were released - because I had also a standing order for the blocks of four! Took me a while to pay all that from my pocket money!
Wow Arto! What a collection! Have you still got it? Sounds amazing!
DeleteYes I do Woodsy, every stamp and every FDC.
ReplyDeleteMy Auntie just gave me a stamp album complete with stamps that she's had since the mid 60's, and its this album!. a bit worse for wear, well, a lot, but i like it and enjoyed reading the info on each page. I had albums when i was a kid but now i just store my stamps alphabetically in little clear bags and some are on thos black cards you get stamps on direct from royal mail. Keeps them cleaner than sticking in an album with those hinges, like they are in my Aunts album....
ReplyDeleteFab Marko, so good that you still collect stamps. If you ever want to send in pics of your Aunt's Sixties album then email them to me, Woodsy. Email at the bottom of here.
