Hi Woodsy
There have been several items on Moonscapes, have you seen this one ?
It is by JTT & Partners, in the USA (but Made in Vietnam). Part of a range of Architectural Model Parts, including figures, vehicles, landscaping materials, and sheets of plastic card, in various scales. Their Plastic Pattern Sheets are 7.5 in by 12 in (19 cm by 30.5 cm), and come two sheets to a bag.
The card is 20 thou - twenty one-thousandths of an inch thick, about half a millimetre. Most items are moulded in white plastic. These can be found in some model shops. They are described as being suitable for architectural models, hobby models, and school projects - but there is a warning that the products are only 'For age 14 and above', so that might limit sales to school children.
Item 97459 Moon & War Craters has seven craters or shell holes of various sizes. The photos show them unpainted, but one is posed with the Matchbox NASA S.E.V./Chariot, which has already appeared on Moonbase Central.

I love vacuum formed moonscapes! I seem to think Johnny Astro had one (I didn't and I haven't bothered Googling it!)
ReplyDeleteNothing says 60s toys like plastic craters!
I was at a loose end the other day, so I carved one up out a foam polystyrene ceiling tile!
It instantly put me into the 10 year old mindset again!
Wanna see a pic?
Yes, please. This is a modern set, not vintage. I only bought it a few weeks ago, and have not even painted it yet.
ReplyDeleteI did have the Jonny Astro vac formed landscape and played with it with extensively with my Major Matt Mason and other space toys.
ReplyDeleteMore recently, I got hold of some vac formed bomb/moon craters from my local Games Workshop, which my son used, to play with some of his Playmobil space toys.
Mish.
Id love to see your ‘scape Looey! Paul, I think I have this vacform diorama, or one very similar. Its a nice piece, see here: http://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2020/07/pure-moonscapism.html?m=1
ReplyDeleteWotan - the second one down, painted blue ? That certainly looks like the one I have, mine is 12 in by 7.5 in, including a narrow plain border. White plastic,. The header card says Moon & War Craters, and there were two sheets in the plastic bag. The craters are not very deep, but are ideal for use with smaller models, such as the Matchbox model in the photo. It would also be ideal for use with the Airfix Astronauts or figures of a similar size. Nice paint job on yours, I have yet to do mine.
ReplyDeletelots of good vids on making terrain on wargaming sites whatever size you want including craters very cheap and big
