I picked up this loose SpaceX Hawk knockoff from Spain this Lockdown.
It was a proper bargain but then again it isn't complete.
Its essentially a yellow fuselage ....
and a blue undercarraige.
Both parts are soft plastic.
Its clearly related to the other red soft plastic Spanish Hawk I have.
They must have been a cheapo Spanish toy range back in the day. They are different to the similar but much classier and carded Aviones Cosmicos range by Bullycan.
I really like them though.
You can pull these apart too and swap parts around.
I've stripped the red one and boosted the new yellow one here.
This is what a complete yellow one would look like, although the parts - wings and nacelles - may have had different colours to the red one's. I imagine the wheels were always black.
What do you think?
Are you going to fabricate some dodgy wings like TB2s?
ReplyDeleteI need some soft red or green plastic like a biscuit variety box. I'll have to wait for Christmas before we get a box in like that and have a go at some wings.
DeleteHey Woodsie! You can make simple copies of plastic bits in the following way.
ReplyDeleteRoll out a slab of plasticene about 25mm thick. Cut it into 2, dust it with talcum powder, half-sink a couple of plastic pearls as locators. Sandwich the part to be copied between them and firmly press together. CAREFULLY separate the two slabs and remove the original.
Mix up 5 minute clear epoxy, tinting it with spray enamel paint. Work the epoxy into the voids in both halves avoiding air bubbles. Push mould together and leave plenty of time to set. Plasticene residue can be cleaned off castings with turps. Trim flash of piece and VOILA!
I used this method to replicate my Corgi Yellow Submarine prop and you could probably use it to make replacement wings and thrusters for this toy!
Ingenious Looey! Thanks.
DeleteI think getting the softness of the plastic right will be easier than getting the colours right, Woodsy. Judging by the complete example, the new one will have had blue wings as well and probably an exhaust in the red used for the other one too. Bullycan will have moulded complete ships in each of those colours and then swapped round the parts. Sounds like a fun project though!

Thanks for the tips Paul.
