Woodsy,
I was excited by Paul Adams' recent post of the amazing Mechanical Fish toy, the coolest weird toy I'd never seen before, but also because of one of the other toys depicted on the side of the box.
This is probably old news to Swordies, but that Space Combat Car toy was a design recycled in a few other products, two of which I am familiar with.
Firstly, there was a wonderful Midori plastic model kit called Planetoid Echo 7, a model I built and enjoyed several times over the years. Next, there was a Hong Kong toy called Echo Car, also a crude kit, which seems to be a scaled down version of the Midori Echo 7.
Anyways, I gathered up all the pix I could find of these two groovy toys and submit them for possible blog inclusion.

What an awesome toy! I realize that the EC on the tail-fin refers to Echo however wouldn't it be cool if it was an EC comics spinoff?? Also the artwork on the 1st image looks like it was ripped straight from Mad magazine!!- MJ Southcoast Base
ReplyDeleteYes MJ! An EC Comics mobile! Runs on grue and parental dismay!
DeleteIt all comes together now! Even though I have the Echo Car as well as the Combat Car, I never made the connection before. New ground broken here!
ReplyDeleteThose Paramount kits... had I time and means, they would be the next big thing in collecting for me. Love the designs, both models & box art. Glad you have covered that area for us Rob.
Good stuff Arto! The Echo Car was one of the first vintage toys I ever bought. It was at an evening toy fair. I used to love those evening shows. The box of the Echo Car was a work of art. I never got the Vanguard or the Moguras but they looked great too. Rob is a real champion of Paramount kits and I thank him for sharing his kits and knowledge with us.
