Following on from
their sell out ‘Breakaway’ Freighter Eagle, Sixteen 12 Collectables have sent
out an update on the next upcoming release. There’s also news of additional
releases, and unfortunately some that have been withdrawn.

The next set – The Immunity
Syndrome, is due to arrive into the UK early December.
This features Eagle
3 with a Re-entry Glider mounted on top. Here's one of the original props on display at Fanderson's Special Assignment Convention.
The design of the
glider resembles an actual NASA design called the Hyper III. The prop models
were built by Martin Bower in two scales, a large version for close ups and a
smaller 16” one which was mounted on the Eagle.
Sixteen 12 did share
some disappointing news. Despite a “relatively” encouraging response, they
would be unlikely to proceed with the Die –cast Hawk and the Laser Tank set.
A lot of collectors
naturally expressed their disappointment,
but as Sixteen 12 explained “Sadly
its simple economics - the cost of producing all new tooling for a low
manufacturing run would make for a prohibitively expense model which the market
will not support. We will however keep all pre order interest “on file” should
things change.”

One of these new releases will be Eagle 10 seen in ‘Collision Course’
carrying the Nuclear mine.
Two mines come with set, and look pretty good to me. I have already read
at least one person criticising the shape and detail of them, but I guess you
can’t please everyone, and any differences might be simply unavoidable and down
to the production process
The original props were built by Martin Bower using plastic food dishes/containers
from Woolworths and then detailed.
Sixteen 12 Collectables haven’t yet said what the other two extra sets will be yet so we’ll just have to
wait and see.
Shame about the Hawk and Lunar Tanks. The new Round 2 Hawk kit is a great model though. That no doubt ends any chance of a Swift or UltraProbe Comand module too. I'd like the mines etc by themselves but it makes sense for them to get back the cost of manufacturing the Eagle by just producing variants. Sadly I don't have space or money for multiple Eagles so I'll pass.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a shame, Yorkie, but like they say its simple economics. The Round 2 Hawk is certainly a good kit. I picked up their 22" Eagle Winch Freighter kit not so long back to go with the 22" Eagle Transporter. Sadly, that too, is being discontinued.
