NEWSFLASH!
In an attempt to break the stalemate in the current issue with CAPTCHA verification on the blog, whereby even though I have turned it off months ago, several frequent readers are still being asked to verify pictures before commenting, I am going to re-set the blog.
So, for the next 24 hours I will TURN BACK ON picture-word/ CAPTCHA verification and change the comment format - in the hope that it changes something - hopefully for the better!
Please let me know - via the comments [if you can] what your experience is now, before I decide what to do after the 24 hours is up.
I apologise in advance if your experience is less than good.
One of our regular readers and top contributors, Kevin, is struggling to comment on the blog from his Android phone.

Even though word and picture verification [CAPTCHA] is turned off on the blog - and it has been for some time - Kevin's phone still asks him to verify picture-words before he can comment. This means that he can't comment, which is a great shame.
Is anybody else being asked to word/picture verify before commenting on the blog? Is it on your mobile? Does anyone have any advice for us as to how to solve this?
I still gat a captcha as well, Woodsy. Usually just a checkbox, but once in a while I too get asked to identify food or beverages.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think this is because I persist in commenting as 'anonymous' instead of bothering to log in to this or that service.
Perhaps Kevin has the same on his mobile, not being logged in I mean?
Hope that helps -- Paul
Ok, I've tried becoming a blog follower and signing into Google, not done those before, let's give it a go.
ReplyDeleteHey, Kev, you've commented! Yay! It worked!
ReplyDeleteCaptcha puzzles almost every time when commenting. Let's see what it will be this time -
ReplyDeleteCabbages!
DeleteNope, got that verification again, which works once in dozens for me.
ReplyDeleteWell this second comment of yours has come through loud and clear Kev!
ReplyDeleteI had tricycles today on a later comment. One of them was tricky.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm a follower too, though I've never noticed anything emanating from that status.
And Woodsy says that captcha shouldn't be switched on in the first place.
The wonders of technology...
Best -- Paul
Still not working for me, I have to retry dozens of times in the hope that I won't get a picture one as my phone just can't do them. It is really frustrating.
ReplyDeleteDamn. I thought you'd cracked it signing in Kev.. What a pain it must be for you and it means we don't get to hear from you as much as we could. Bummer all round. I may shake things up tonight and re-set all the comments settings to require verification just to see what happens. It seems ridiculous that at least three of you are still being asked to recognise pictures whenI have turned off verification months ago. I am flummoxed. I wonder if its to do with something much bigger like Google+.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Paul's comment about the benefits of being a blog 'Follower', a blogger term and not mine, the answer is that I don't know. You get your avatar in the side-bar but beyond that I'm unsure. I can try to find out though.
ReplyDeleteI get the image verification every time (have to prove I'm not a robot!). As I am on a computer, don't have a problem with it.
ReplyDeleteBy the sounds of it virtually everyone has been getting image verification even though I've turned it off! I have no idea why that is. I can only assume its a Google signing-in thing maybe. Blogger is part of Google.
