Regular readers will know that I'm a huge fan of huge monsters. Fed on a childhood diet of dinosaurs and creature features, my love of colossal movie beings has never waned. So, as I've done many times before, here, courtesy of You Tube, are a few of my favourite big things.
Fire Demon from Night of the Demon 1957
The Fire Demon is an amazingly ferocious-looking massive monster. Much to my absolute joy, it appears in the film right from the start! Incredibly well realised, I have always loved the close-up of the slavering beast reaching out with its huge talons. Remember, this was 1957!
Leviathan from Surface 2008
This, sadly short-lived, TV series really caught my imagination. The wide shots of the sea beast, like the opening of this clip, were truly awe-inspiring. It would make a great movie.
Behemoth from the Mist 2010
I watched The Mist on You Tube a couple of years ago and was blown away with the colossal monsters stomping around. By far the biggest is the truly enormous Behemoth towards the end. Fantastic music too!
Kraken from Clash of the Titans 2010
The Kraken has been released many times on film but I think the 2010 version is one of the best. It's got an excellent roar as well.
King of the Monsters, Godzilla 2014
and so to this summer's daddy of all creatures features, GODZILLA, where the Lord of the Kaiju gets to destroy New York once again and this time Matthew Broderick's annoying voice is nowhere to be heard. Judging by this trailer, it's a serious look at a seriously destructive and towering creature, the very definite King of the Monsters and I'm hoping its everything the Broderick flick should have been and all that Cloverfield could have been.
Which are your favourite mega-monsters readers?

I've just noticed a resemblance between the Kraken and the new Godzilla. See what you think!
New godzilla looks class, but begs the question, why remake it? Same with Spiderman, why bother?
