Through the wonders of the internet, the Lord of Sword himself, Woodmeister has uncovered this cool article about the little UFO gun disks i was writing about earlier!
When this was sold as the "Star Trek Tracer Gun" it was one of the very few items of Star Trek-themed merchandise that could be found in stores while the show was on the air. (I only recall this and the AMT model kits of the Enterprise and Klingon ship.)
I wrote a pretty long comment about Tracer Guns that my browser ate a couple of weeks ago that I just didn't feel like reconstructing. One thing I remember writing, though, was that I'd never heard of Ray Plastics making a SPACE: 1999-branded gun to match the STAR TREK one. In fact, there wasn't one; however, AHI made a more "screen-accurate" toy with the same sort of mechanism, and Plaid Stallions has just posted nice photos of it in UK packaging:
That's the gun I owned. That certainly brings back memories. I never realized that they had released a reload set.
