Hawk Weird-Ohs
LYRA MAN
This torso is by Greek company Lyra. I'm unsure what this toy man is called. He's clearly a type of military Action Man style doll.
The face is unusual!
Anyone know this fella?

Brian at Monsterbase says he looks like Greg Brady aka Barry Williams! ha ha. I have to agree!

HONG KONG MOTORBIKE TOY 303
I like these vintage plastic motorbikes.
They were made in Hong Kong and model numbered 303 on the base.
I have the red one. You?
GALLOPING ACTION
Continuing our small ride into the Wild West here's a wind-up Galloping action Wild West Riding Horse.
I love the box art, which has a Marx Best of the West vibe to it I think.
I found one of these toys at a small city car boot we stumbled upon years ago and it spent some happy weeks on my toy stall before rising into a new sunset.
Have you anything like this?

Base Instinct
Way back in 1969, when Airfix was one of the heavy hitters of the British toy industry, they expanded the model line to include a little more play value, by adding in items which could be played with more directly, than a model. To complement their line of polythene OO/HO military vehicles, Airfix introduced some interesting playsets, such as the Pontoon Bridge, Coastal Defence and the Gun Emplacement.
More toy than model, but with some assembly needed, the Gun Emplacement was the perfect base to use with the small 1" figures. It had a spring loaded cannon, searchlight, two pillboxes and a series of trenches to equip with troops to defend the border. At the time, I was more into the larger soldiers at 1/72, but I still found this little model fascinating.

My own son had a play with it during his childhood, but being of the modern generation was not altogether keen on it as it doesn't have the sound and lights of modern toys and is considerably heavier!
In the back of the turret can be seen the ammo box from the plastic machine gun nest and a rocket launcher from the back of one of the little green army trucks that arrived in most army sets in the sixties. The sandbags have been a little chipped, but will still stop a bullet today.
The layout of the pillboxes and trenches match the Airfix model perfectly, but the whole base is a little wider front to back to accomodate the larger figures.
LEGENDARY PERSONAGES OF THE WILD WEST
Another wild west toy I recently saw at a sale was this figure of General Grant. Its from the Wild West series of Legendary Personages, small statuettes by Spanish company Comansi. Each figure came boxed like this one. They are hand painted PVC figurines made in China. Not sure of the date.
There was a window boxed version too I think.
Years ago when I had a vintage toy stall I bought in a stack of these boxed figures and I must say they sold well.
Here's a few more I saw on the Bay.
Do you like them readers?

FAST PLASTIC: THE PALADONE QUICK DRAW TOY
I saw this toy over the summer at the local boot sale, one I've not seen before.
Its the Quick Draw target set by Paladone.
You have to draw and stop the timer before the cowboy draws on you!
I would have loved it as kid! I was obsessed with gunslingers like Billy the Kid and Wild Bill Hickock. This toy figure reminds me of a lot of Wyatt Earp.
He talks too but I don't know what he says. Any ideas?
Did you have any cowboy toys readers?
