Hi,
From Maxsmodels here is a history of American kit company Hawk, and their models. These include the Weird-Ohs line of creature kits, which have been mentioned a time or two on Moonbase.
A couple of these were re-issued in Britain by Airfix, which seems a pretty strange choice for Airfix.
There is also a great kit of the Beta-1 Atomic Powered Bomber. This was a 1/188th scale kit which came out in 1959.
It even included a pair of parasite fighters carried by the bomber for self defence. Wish someone would re-issue that one.

I built exactly one of these Hawk Weirdos (but a recent reissue), some sort of female race car groupie (I forget her name). If I can find the pix I'll send them along to Woodsy. These were so much fun to build and paint back in the day - you could be sort of "free" with the paint scheme, as they weren't authentic military vehicles or anything. Those, and the Aurora monster models, were my childhood joy...
ReplyDeleteThat would have been the Hawk Weird-Ohs Sling Rave Curvette - The Way Out Spectator. Obviously a play on the car name Sting Ray Corvette. I have not built any of the Weird-Ohs, but I did recently build the Ed 'Big Daddy' Roth Angel Fink kit (originally by Revell, re-issued by Atlantis). Yes, no limits on the paint jobs.
