I saw this toy over the summer at the local boot sale, one I've not seen before.
Its the Quick Draw target set by Paladone.
You have to draw and stop the timer before the cowboy draws on you!
I would have loved it as kid! I was obsessed with gunslingers like Billy the Kid and Wild Bill Hickock. This toy figure reminds me of a lot of Wyatt Earp.
He talks too but I don't know what he says. Any ideas?
Did you have any cowboy toys readers?
Yee-haw! I had loads of cowboy toys as a toadlet. Bestest of all was my cowboy hat, belt with a gem encrusted holster (ok they were plastic gems but the holster was leather) with a six-shooter (ok a colt style cap gun). Fantastic stuff for xmas 67 or 68. I kept that gun and holster till about 2005 before binning them (another thing I wish I hadn't chucked away). I know theres some xmas pics on my mums laptop with me in the hat with the gun. I'll go have a root around to see what I can find.
ReplyDeleteHi-ho Silver! (lone ranger tjeme playing in my mind now....)
Ah yes Timmy, I think I donned similar holsters and revolvers. Gem encrusted! Yes, that phrases brought it all back. God, what fun we had as young gunslingers and I have to say we haven't gone around shooting people as adults have we. Many modern childhoods are de-militarised nowadays, de-cowboyed. As for chucking it, That must have been a big decision to bin them in 2005. Making space for modern stuff? I hardly have anything from my childhood.
DeleteOld faves are Marx Johnny West and friends. These days, there's also a couple of Marx Lone Ranger pieces hangin' around the last chance saloon with the other toys, Woodsy.
ReplyDeleteYes, they're old faves of mine too Tone. I adored my Marx Johnny and Chief Cherokee as a kid, all that soft plastic paraphananalia and those stiff figures. Lone Ranger really rings a bell too as a toy I had. I can see the Annual in my mind but not the toy!
DeleteI'll send in some pics, Woodsy. You'll probably remember them when you see them. Probably even sold some bits and pieces in your dealer days :)
ReplyDeletePics and words received safe and secure Tone. Thanks so much. Yep, selling Best of the West and Gabriel's Lone Ranger was always fun. I found a lot in Germany one year including some German spin-offs like Karl May. Always great fun ID'ing them!
DeleteHe says 'All hat and no cowboy' when he wins. And 'This town aint big enough for the both of us' after 5 draws. Unfortunately I don't have the gun, just the figure so I don't know know what happens when you beat him. How is your gun shot registered? Does it recognise a sound or is it a light beam?
ReplyDeleteI bought the same ;Cowboy on eBay about 12 months ago I’m still looking for the gun. If anyone can help just message me I still play Cowboys, but with blank, firing guns, my fastest draw was 500 of a second my western name, is JohnnyRingo
ReplyDeleteHi, I forgot to mention what he says he says howdy partner, you think you’re the best in the west drawer then the timer starts after specified few seconds, he says draw the time starts his arm lifts up then he fires then he says got you partner all hat, no cowboy if you are think of selling, it, please let me know. I will check back in a week or so. happy riding
ReplyDeleteHi John, I've done some surfing this morning and found two other Paladone gunslinger sets that may have, may have, the same light gun as the Quick Draw set but you woyuld need to do more research. 1. Paladone Gun Slingers https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314960888491?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ukew4zgiqne&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=TaqCDb0LSF6&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Deleteand 2. Paladone Sharp Shootin Remote Control https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304726407657?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=7rj9i1FqRHe&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=TaqCDb0LSF6&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
There are also more light guns out there like the one s by Konami for their Lethal Enforcers set, another Gunslingin' game.
I've no idea how the Quick Draw light gun attaches to the unit but it looks like a cable to me.
Hope this helps.
