SCARY SCOOTERS, SCARY SLURFIES

Earlier in the year I posted a mystery toy. Bill B ID'd it as a Slurfie.

So I was fascinated to see them with a different name on Ebay - Scary Scooters!

Here's two carded and the one I had myself, found at a boot sale, was the one in front of all the others on the header art.

DID YOU EVER PLAY IN THE RAIN?

Did you play out when it was raining? Maybe you were already out and you just carried on despite the showers?

Back then we had anoraks, which pretty much deflected rain if I remember rightly. Splashing other kids with puddle water was fun but my Mum went mad when I got home!

Everyone used to say that getting wet in the rain would give you a chill. It sort of made rain unhealthy but I liked the feel of it bouncing off my hood and coat anyway.

How about you readers?

ATLAS MODERN DINKY AUSTIN

Further to the posts on repro boxes, this is an ATLAS Dinky a modern copy from the range of Dinky Toys that include a repro box which says in small print that it is an Atlas copy. 

On the left is my Austin Covered lorry from the early 50's. It was Maroon but over painted by me when I needed transport for the Airfix 8th Army back about 1960. I considered buying a repro Radiator Cowl with headlights and a repro tin canopy to restore it but decided to buy the cheaper complete repro model to compliment my beaten up original.

A Star to steer her by

A good week of cautious purchasing on ebay has brought home a toy I have been meaning to get for years. The Dinky Enterprise finally made it home to Mars this week in the shape of a loose, playworn example that I bought for under a fiver. It needs a little tlc, but the good thing is that I already had a set of photon torpedoes and the little orange Gallileo shuttle to complete it. Heres a quick shot of it as is, im hoping to repaint it soon and bring it back to its prime.

Off the starboard bow we have a nice pair of Glico spaceships, name unknown, that I also won this week. The green cruiser is just under 3" inches with moveable turrets, metal undercarriage and clearly marked Glico underneath. Very reminiscent of the Airfix Cosmic Clipper. I do love these small plastic spacecraft, takes me back to the good old days of Spacex.

ULYSSES 31 ANYONE?

I saw these old plastic watches on the Spanish Todocollecion.

My lack of Anime knowledge lets me down once again as I know nothing about what I assume is Ulysses 31.

Was it a popular TV show and did you get any merchandise or toys like this?

DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE A BIG MEAL AT NIGHT OR MAYBE JUST A SNACK?

When I was a kid in the Sixties we always had a hot evening meal around 5pm.

I was always starving after a late afternoon play with toys or playing out after Skool, which finished around 3pm.

This evening meal was called Tea in Northern England. This would have been potatoes of some species, hot meat of some cut and veg of some hue of green. Oh and yep, bisto gravy.

Me and the Missus still like a big Tea in the evening, usually about 7pm when most things are done and dusted.

But sometimes I like a simple snack instead, something like a poached egg on toast or cheesy beans on toast. In fact anything on toast!
