Godspeed Artemis II

Artemis II has lifted off.

And what a fantastic sight it was!

I tuned in about an hour before liftoff. When they paused at T-10 minutes I thought the mission would be scrubbed and rescheduled. It's good they solved the issue and got the 'go' for the launch.

Yes, me and Mrs Ev also watched the countdown and launch, it was so reminiscent of my memories of Apollo 8. I'm glad that Sharon got to see this, as she was a baby in 1968, and doesn't remember any of the Moon landings.

Contrasting the coverage of back then and now, we'd have had a studio panel of commentators led by Peter Fairley [ITV] and Partick Moor [BBC] all studio based in London - whereas now, it was presented live at the Cape.

We loved the bit where they used an old piece of technology off the Space Shuttle as a workaround.

I didn't watch it, I'm afraid.
Whilst I'm still a believer in 'manned' spaceflight, I can't pretend it holds anything like the same excitement it did for me as a kid.
Also, they're not actually going to the Moon, just around it, and, sadly, I'm not keen on the USA going into space, when their administration in neo fascist !
Those are not the kind of Star Trek values I hoped to see taken from Earth.

Sorry, that was a bit too grim.
NASA is NOT the current US government, has higher human values, and the crew is diverse.
So, on that basis, "God's speed Artemis II !"

I missed the launch, but saw it on the evening news.
Outside my house, a huge full moon was rising into the night sky. I went out and gazed at it, thinking for the second time in my life, humans were headed towards it.
