Artemis II has lifted off.
And what a fantastic sight it was!
Did you see it readers?
Are you excited about NASA's new flight, which will take the four astronauts to the mysterious dark side of the moon?

I tuned in about an hour before liftoff. When they paused at T-10 minutes I thought the mission would be scrubbed and rescheduled. It's good they solved the issue and got the 'go' for the launch.
ReplyDeleteMe too Ed. I thought T-10 was going to be it!
DeleteIt was magnificent
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteYes, me and Mrs Ev also watched the countdown and launch, it was so reminiscent of my memories of Apollo 8. I'm glad that Sharon got to see this, as she was a baby in 1968, and doesn't remember any of the Moon landings.
ReplyDeleteContrasting the coverage of back then and now, we'd have had a studio panel of commentators led by Peter Fairley [ITV] and Partick Moor [BBC] all studio based in London - whereas now, it was presented live at the Cape.
We loved the bit where they used an old piece of technology off the Space Shuttle as a workaround.
Sounds great watching it together Bill. A unique experience.

The NewSpacers could only offer sour grapes and fuss about video lapses.
Interesting.
DeleteWife and I watched the Liftoff last night! Wonderful!
ReplyDelete(Then we watched Red Dwarf) ;)
What a combo Scott! Artemis and the Bug!
DeleteI didn't watch it, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteWhilst I'm still a believer in 'manned' spaceflight, I can't pretend it holds anything like the same excitement it did for me as a kid.
Also, they're not actually going to the Moon, just around it, and, sadly, I'm not keen on the USA going into space, when their administration in neo fascist !
Those are not the kind of Star Trek values I hoped to see taken from Earth.
😞
DeleteThis is one more reason to be an SLS fan…as its core is built by UNION employees (unlike SpaceX, whose Starship is only fit to haul the Orion capsule’s toilet contents.)
DeleteJared is trying to destroy SLS, by keeping it from evolving into its block 2 configuration.
You can even print your own SLS now:

Sorry, that was a bit too grim.
ReplyDeleteNASA is NOT the current US government, has higher human values, and the crew is diverse.
So, on that basis, "God's speed Artemis II !"
Here here Mish, Godspeed Artemis II.
Delete🖖
DeleteI missed the launch, but saw it on the evening news.
ReplyDeleteOutside my house, a huge full moon was rising into the night sky. I went out and gazed at it, thinking for the second time in my life, humans were headed towards it.
Very poignant Looey!
DeleteThere were post Apollo plans for engines that would have dwarfed F-1s:
