One of my recent car boot finds was this Hot Wheels yellow fire tender. A pound well spent.
I recognized it from my old Hot Wheels book, one of the early Eighties Flying Colors range: Airport Rescue 1981.
Thanks go to Paul from Auckland for identifying the original real life vehicle, the USAF Oshkosh P-15 8x8 airport crash tender as pictured on Wikipedia.
Has anyone driven one of these amazing vehicles? It's like something straight out of Thunderbirds!
That is a beauty, very much out of the Supermarionation universe! SFZ
ReplyDeleteIt is SF!
DeleteI have several photos of airfield emergency vehicles from Nellis air shows and it doesn't appear as if we have anything like this particular vehicle. It's interesting and I may have to pick one up as part of my airfield equipment.
ReplyDeleteYep, definitely American too Ed. I was pleased to spot it.
Delete...and Oshkosh (the town these are made in) is in my home state of Wisconsin. It is also the site of the annual EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Air Show, one of the most famous in the country.
