Hi Woodsy.
My restoration of the Kitmaster Fireball XL5 is nearly complete.
The decals are reproduction ones , the observation dome is the cockpit glass from a Yak 15 kit .....
but I haven't found anything that will do for the glass on fireball junior yet!
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Maybe an Airfix or similar kit of a Superfortress might yield some useable glass? Bill
ReplyDeleteSorry to say, I think this will be quite difficult. Finding something with the right diameter to fit smoothly on, mirroring the lower half of the nose cone curve might prove impossible.
ReplyDeleteShort of 3D printing, moulding and casting, or press forming a custom made piece, there's not much you can do. You might be able to make the Fireball junior nose cone window frame, without 'glass', out of thin plasticard, but that too may prove tricky.
Time to develop your balsawood carving skills! Carve the plug, sand and seal it with Super Glue. Lightly sand and polish it, then cut a suitable hole in a sheet of 3mm MDF or ply wood. Scavenge some clear packaging plastic and super glue it over the hole. Heat the plastic and plunge your plug into the hole to the required depth.
ReplyDeleteThe old ways still work!
