Hi there Moonbasers!
I got a little distracted while working on some of my simultaneous projects. I have all three of my childhood Zeroids in a display case I made as a teenager and it's really the worse for wear.
While considering a replacement, I thought again about how Ideal's Zeroids really were one of my favourite toys! The design was AMAZING and they were scaled just right for Major Matt Mason!
Anyway, still in my '66 mind groove, I woke up one morning possessed and HAD to design a Zeroid in their classic style. I already had Zintar: The Explorer, Zobor: The Transporter and Zerak: The Destroyer (pretty dull, no wonder his hands didn't even grip like the other two!)
So, I now give you Zutura: The Replicator!
Complete with all those design features I loved so much as a kid!
A chromed brain under a glass dome... I even pushed back my personal CGI envelope, by shaping the leading edge of the transparency with the digital equivalent of sanding and polishing!
And all those details on the rear deck like the on/off switch!
I didn't originally intend Zutura to be a female robot, but given my design inspiration, it was just a natural development.
And what was that inspiration that provided so many styling hints and gave her that odd name?
-Just a one word clue, Bat fans. ....Batmobile.
Maybe I'll get around to 3D printing her out in a little while, I've already bought the Radio Control drive chain, but making the caterpillar tracks in silicone rubber will be a bit of a task! ...
Happy New Year,
Looey
Oz Base
That's very clever!
ReplyDeleteNice one Looey.
ReplyDeleteGreat retro styling.
I feel a fight for Zutura's affections between the original Zeriods is in prospect.
Very nice, Lewis, and is bound to keep the diversity fanatics happy. If you do get to eventually build 'her', put my name down for one!
ReplyDeleteSome slick Zeroiding there Looey! Love the chrome brain [hope it can be taken out] and the purple get-up. The head has a neat Rockem-Sockem vibe too! Wowzers!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! CGI creations open up a whole new world for SF fans. My capacity for this kind of stuff is Zero, so I will enjoy your creations vicariously. I bet you could sell this as a 3D printed kit, if you cared to. Lots of Zeroids fans out there. SFZ
ReplyDeleteThe metallic purple finish is certainly eye-catching. Plus, a really nice design. It does need to be built for real, and added to your robot collection.
ReplyDeleteA little down on my current list as I'm working on that gaux 2001 space pis ATM. (It'll feature in my test puppet film -just because I can) The purple Materials effect CGI looked nice, but when i went down to my local auto shop to peruse the car touch up cans I got a nasty surprise. They are no longer stocked. There is a computerized work station that will mix up any colour and put it in a spray can for twice the cost of the old stock. What's even worse, there's no colour chart, so physically looking for the right shade is no longer possible.
DeleteBut, they did have some stock cans of other style paints and I found the most AMAZING shade of metallic purple which will look even nicer than the lilac seen here!
Arrgh! Phone fumble!
