I've already covered some of the metal badges that featured Captain Scarlet and Joe 90 that were given free in Sugar Smacks cereal boxes. Now here we have the badges that were available from Lone Star at the time.

The Captain Scarlet badge would have come attached to small card, which I have reproduced.
I believe the two different Joe 90 badges would have been simply attached to a large shop display card containing twelve examples, so I've cheated with mine and created my own individual card for each Joe 90 badge.
Interesting. I've got the Sugar Smacks ones but not these. The cards are nice.
ReplyDeleteI should mention that these badges are bigger than the Sugar Smacks ones. For the Joe 90 cards I used the artwork that was used for the Lone Star cap gun backing card header, the same which was used for the badges shop display.
DeleteI reckon we all collected those free Sugar Smacks badges at the time, Kev, although I'm not sure our teeth appreciated it !
Fun nostalgia! I’m really enjoying revisiting Joe 90, thanks to the series being available on our Tubi steaming service. Some marvelous episodes, and the occasional spectacular f/x scene. SFZ
ReplyDeleteSome of the effects are exceptional in Joe 90, Zigg, and I'm pleased to hear you're enjoying rewatching it.
DeleteI'm impressed on a whole different level. I used to be fascinated with creating toys that never were (still am in some ways) and these are masterful examples. Are they just Photoshop, or have you actually printed out header cards and photographed them?
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your artifice, although I have to say that as we slide towards a post-truth existence with the preponderance of AI and CGI on Facebook and the like, that mystery of seeing something you're not sure actually exists, is in danger of being worn out.
As I mention, Lewis , the Captain Scarlet card is reproduced from an image of what the badge would have originally come with. The Joe 90 card artwork is simply reduced from what Lone Star used on their larger Joe 90 backing cards. I printed them out, attached my badges and photographed them. As the Joe 90 badges would have been sold on their own I thought I'd enhance them with a small version of the actual Lone Star Joe 90 artwork. Using the word artifice, is a little strong, Lewis, as my motive is not to deceive
DeleteNo insult intended!
DeleteNone taken, Lewis.
DeleteGorgeous badges and cards Scoop. I remember the badges so well. We lived in a world of pin badges back then didn't we. Great to collect. I never see Joe 90 badges at boot sales but I do see lots of others. I keep seeing Clarks Commandos badges. They must have come free with shoes! Those were the days!
