I couldn't help but drool over this vintage Japanese mag ad [ courtesy of the Skullbrain site] for Major Matt Mason toys. Its all there, all our favourites!
Sixties Japanese kids had the same kind of space mad childhood as us Boomers!
Looking at the space station on the left, could the crawler be placed sideways on top like that or is that just the way they've positioned it?
The crawler clips onto the roof of the space station and acts as a crane, using the battery powered hoist on the back. Ive got mine set up just like that! Bill
ReplyDeleteWell I never. I must have done that as a kid but there's thick fog on the moon since then!
DeleteI had most of the MMM line as a kid, and they were my favorite toys. Saved them for years then gave them to a guy from the moving company, who had kids. Years later I had my own kid, and bought what I could find for her. Including some repro MMM figures (the paint was always a little tacky). We gave those away to charity too, but my daughter is finishing up her junior year earning her degree in astronautical engineering. Score one for Team Mason!
ReplyDeleteha ha, that made me laugh Baron! Score one for Team Mason! Love it! You've done well Baron! Your daughter will go far!
DeleteI wanted to build my own version of the Space Station and have a faux Sears type ad that read " Moon Rover can be placed on top to act as a crane, so the Moon Rover can be hauled up to act as a crane..."
ReplyDeleteMakes you think, doesn’t it?
Reminds me of my first job, working in a camera shop. I wanted to buy this flash. I saw a magazine ad for it. It showed a model and the flash had somehow made three shadows in different colors. I asked one of the sales guys how to do that. He looked smug, and told me they needed THREE flashes to do that. I was devastated.
DeleteDid you take your Matt Mason toys to Oz back in the day Looey? Would a proper Space Station have been on offer in Oz back then?
DeleteBaron, that's funny too! Those sneaky flashers! Speaking of camera flashes, I once had the friend of a friend take some professional snaps of my early toy collection, Batmobiles and the like, in the 1990's. He was using his Dad's old flash gun he'd been given years back. Walking across the 'set' I tripped over the flash cable to his camera and the flash unit fell off a table and broke. I was mortified. I did get the photos [on the blog] and negatives but the guy never spoke to me again!
