Whoo Hooo, Moonbasers!
I finally finished my Doll and Miniatures Show presentation literally a minute before the doors opened!
1) The finished display! What do you think?
2) HEY BOOMERS! Remember these toys? Major Matt Mason was dead as a toy line the moment Armstrong kicked the moon. But what if Mattel had tried to extend the line.
Two possibilities, cross it with Barbie and Ken or bring in some heavy duty villains (like the Big Jim range) instead of those cream puff aliens! Yeah, give America's boys some real Bad Guys so they can win a few battles....
3) This is Kenn, he's a really nice guy and he's the first American on the moon. He came for all Mankind, but he planted Old Glory while he was at it!
(Flag sold separately)
4) For the first day, life was really sweet for Kenn and he tooled across the Sea of Crises in his Moon Bugger.
An unfortunate naming caused by a last minute compromise between the Madhell Naming Department who wanted "Moon Buggy" and Marketing Department who wanted "Moon Crawler". The result was 40,000 boxes that had to have a sticker hand-applied to turn it into " Moon Bug"!
Several Madhell Heads lost their jobs that month ...
Further adventures to follow .....
A great display. Sand castles on the Moon - and is that a little Australian flag atop the castle ?
ReplyDeleteMan! Are you sharp eyed! That flag is less than 10mm wide and very subtle amongst all the Old Glory waving of the big boys! Find out more about it as the adventure continues...
DeleteThey look great, Lewis.
ReplyDeleteAmazing work Looey, love the moon baby! The crawler is really well realised and could fit in easily with the MMM range! The russki comonaut is an inspired design too! Cant wait to see more! Bill
ReplyDeleteYour 3D printed Moon Crawler is great Looey.
ReplyDeleteAre the helmets printed too, or are they vac forms or something ?
Hi Mish, EVERYTHING is 3D printed. I was in a bit of a rush, so the surface quality if the clear visors is not quite as good as I would have liked. Having said that, I did dozens of tests to get the shape and hinging gimmick as close as I could in the time available. Luckily the transparent orange Tamiya paint and Green Stuff Chrome on the trim really bring them up to scratch!
ReplyDeleteThere is a trick to getting a good surface finish on transparences when you are 3D printing. I was really pleased with Boris's face bubble!
What 3D printer have you got Looey and can you recommend it ?
ReplyDeleteI use two Elegoo Mars which retail for around $230 each. I use Anycubic Tough resin in white and clear around $50/litre.
DeleteI really like the surface quality of SLA machines as opposed to FDM types...
Lovely sets!
ReplyDeleteI have to say Looey that your Moon Buggy steals the show! You'll be getting orders from Spacex fans!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the 3D printer info Looey.
