Here's the first of my Smallspace 9 reports:
The Smallspace one-day event takes place in the sleepy village of Hanslope, Buckinghamshire, and plays host to some wonderful scale model displays mainly from film and TV.
This was the first Smallspace since Covid rules were relaxed, and to be honest, for me, as I'm not the most prolific emailer, this one was all about meeting up with people, who I hadn't seen for a while.
The theme of this years show was special effects, and featured several guests who worked in the film and TV industry, including Steve Begg, Chrissie Overs, Chris Trice and Lee Stringer.
As I mentioned, this was all about meeting up with people, and as I wandered about the hall marvelling at the model displays and chatting to the guests, a chap tapped me on the shoulder and introduced himself ; it was non other than our very own reader and contributor Mish aka Alan Marshall!
Now, I should point out that Mish or Alan, is better known to the actual attending guests as Rocky, as that's his nickname when working as a special effects technician too!
His C.V. is impressive. Amongst other things, he's worked with Mike Tucker at The Model Unit on Red Dwarf, and with Steve Begg on Daniel Craig's first Bond outing, Casino Royal.
Alan's excellent painting of Stingray
Meeting up with Alan, who, I should add is also a brilliant artist, was certainly a highlight for me, and hopefully we'll get to meet up again at some point, heck, we might even swop emails!
Great to see you in person, Mish. Wonderful Stingray artwork!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to all your Smallspace reports, as always, Scoop
Mish's artwork is top notch, Arto.
DeleteAs if one K-9 wasn't enough!
ReplyDeleteOne was the stunt double! ;D
DeleteLooks like a fun time!
ReplyDeleteI'm very impressed with Rocky's artwork. It's a wonderful thing to be paid to do what you love! I'm inspired!
I glimpsed that Back to the Future loco in the foreground, any other pics?
My wife and I just came back from a Melbourne Doll and Miniatures show and yes, despite the increasing infections, Covid restrictions have been reduced.(but we kept our masks on!)
Lovely
ReplyDeleteHa! The Virus painting is Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the glowing intro Scoop.
It's far too generous, but I'll take it anyway.
Although I'm actually called Alan, and am known as 'Rocky' by my colleagues, I chose 'Mish' as my call sign on Moonbase because it was my nickname at school in the 70s and this seemed more appropriate for the blog.
When I knew that Scoop and I would both be at Smallspace this year, it felt daft not to say hello and come clean about my I.D.
I hope you don't mind Woodsy.
I look forward to continuing to read and comment on the blog and will try to contribute posts now and again, if that's OK.
Once again, thanks Scoop.
I'm sure the rest of your Smallspace 9 posts and photos will be far more interesting to readers than this one.
You're far too modest, Mish, and it was a pleasure to meet up with you. I reckon there'll be a few more incites into SFX etc from you in the fullness of time. Cheers
DeleteI can't very well refuse now, really.
ReplyDeleteSorry, that last one was from me.
ReplyDeleteThat Stingray painting is BRILLIANT...
ReplyDeletenow im utterly confused, first Mish, then Rob, then Rocky - I think ill split the difference and call you Rishi! Dishi Rishi! Seriously though, beautiful artwork, youve come on a bit since those space and dino scrapbooks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words about the paintings guys, and well done Anonymous for remembering my previous school projects.
