Here's some photos of my Ideal Boaterific 'PT 204 ' Patrol Boat.
This one of the two later additions to the Boaterific Classic Marine fleet.
Mine didn't come with a backdrop, although my guess is assuming Ideal didn't do one specially for it, it may well have come with the 'Mighty Blaze' backdrop, but I really don't know for sure, as I've only seen other examples in later generic packaging. It might also explain why some backdrops had the specific model's name blanked out.
The 'PT 204' is one of eight 'Marine Classics' motorised toy boats originally brought out by Ideal during 1966/67 and 1970 using their unique removable electric motor also used in their 'Motorific' Cars and 'Zeroid' Robot range.
The motor and the batteries are stowed below decks in the deep hull. This also houses the 'automatic bailer' which is designed to pump out any water resting at the base of the hull, or bilge, so the motor and batteries are protected from shorts.
The PT 204 toy has lot of delicate chromed detail which is unsurprisingly prone to being damaged. My PT204 relatively unscathed considering, and looks to be just missing it's bow flag.
More Boaterific ramblings soon, shipmates!
So did anyone make a PT 109 toy? I know Aurora made a kit, but playable PT boats is something else!
ReplyDeleteI think Revell make a PT109 kit
DeleteThere is a historic eBay listing on WorthPoint for a PT 204 in a case, with a background that the text of the listing says is original:
Deletehttps://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1967-ideal-boaterific-pt-204-471727666
The background on that listing is using the Boaterific 'King of the Sea' Cabin Cruiser one. Note the blanked out wording on the right hand corner, but it may well have been what originally came with toy.
DeleteIf so, it reaffirms my theory that the last two additions to the Boaterific line up used the altered backgrounds .
Beautiful boat and very rare. Nice
ReplyDeletedid not think the last 2 models came in plastic cases. you put it in a plastic case? my Barracuda fishing boat came in a boaterific paper case.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to say, but I'd suspect they all initially came in plastic cases, although later in the run they began to come in with mix and match backing cards.
DeleteI've got two Boaterific patrol boats and both mine arrived in a plastic case.
I have got two different Boaterific boats in the later carded acetate packaging. One is the tug, and the other is the Sea Wolf, which of course, both originally came in plastic cases.
I confess I never seen an example of the other last release, the Marlin Tower Fisherman so I couldn't say whether that came in a plastic case or not. However, based on one of the American comic adverts of the time I'd hazard a guess and say that started out in a plastic case.
