We've seen this before. Here's another Swing Wing Strike Fighter, this time released by Telsalda.
I've chosen to keep the landing gear pic from anold auction because its the same one as the Century 21 Project SWORD Scouts I seem to remember and a good replacement.
Its the same box art we've featured before too.
The one I have is by SL.
Have you got one?
This is quite similar to one of my favorite aircraft, the FB-111.

Nice Captain!
DeleteWoodsy, I grew up near a USAF base where some of these aircraft were based. I can remember going to an open house one summer and being allowed to sit in the cockpit, and while I sat there I asked the aircraft commander where the "Nuclear Consent" button was located. He blanched, then quietly pointed to a location on the lower left of the control panel.
DeleteGood God, scary stuff Captain Steve! I wouldn't have known to ask that question! I just hope the consent never has to be given in this crazy torn world we have now.
DeleteThe General Dynamics F-111 was intended for both the US Air Force as a low-level strike aircraft; and as a carrier-based fighter for the US Navy, the latter being cancelled and replaced by the F-14 Tomcat. The FB-111 was a version for the USAF Strategic Air Command. Britain did order 50 of the F-111K for the Royal Air Force, but the order was cancelled, and the only export customer was Australia. The box top shows the long-nosed USAF F-111A in Vietnam period tactical camouflage; and a short-nosed USN F-111B in grey and white - both in fictional Royal Navy markings - although I do not see any British roundels. Perhaps this version was intended for the British market ?
ReplyDeleteThe box art also shows the Air Force version with the landing gear retracted, and wings swept aft for high speed flight; with the Navy model having the gear down, and wings forward for landing or take-off.
Fascinating Paul. The box art is lovely and its a great looking toy.
DeleteThe Telsalda box art has been bothering me, and on checking I realised why. It is almost identical to the box art for the Revell F-111 kit in 1/72nd scale. The aircraft markings, and the background, have been changed, but the aircraft are the same. I will find a photo, and send it in.
ReplyDeleteFascinating too Paul. Thanks for the extra info. Got it. There's another example of the toy on Ebay with the box art picture cut out!
