We bought 5 dvds for a pound yesterday! They are virtually being given away!
Anyways three of them are Disney Pixar movies. We've seen two last night, Wall E and Monsters Inc. Just The Incredibles to go.
We've seen them all afore. These are for Junior in a holiday house coming up soon. We tested the quality. Thats our excuse anyway!
Wall E struck me as an updated ET for a new generation, now nearly 13 years older! We loved Wall E and its message of not quite ecogeddon but nearly seems bang on now! Very clever animation and really quite charming. Would you agree?
The same can be said for Monsters Inc, now 20 years old. Inspired writing and animation, which kid couldn't resist Mike and Sully's hilarious antics? What do you say?
Pixar seemed to have their finger on the cartoon pulse back then. Disney clearly benefitted. Are Pixar still a force to be reckoned with?
I have almost all the Pixar films, which we bought for the kids as they gre up and then just because. Wall-E is brilliant in concept and story. Monsters Inc again is hilarious and has been followed by Monsters University and recently by Monsters at Work on Disney +. Incredibles again is fabulous, with a beautifully desugned faux future 60s look to it. Finding Nemo is hilariously funny too. You might want to invest in the Cars series too. Possibly one of the best visualised animations is Brave, a tale of a scottish warrior maiden. The animation on the lead characters hair alone is stunning. The latest Pixar is Luca, the story of a seagoing merboy who winds up on dry land. Again a visual delight, with amazing storytelling. Coco and Soul even deal intelligently and sensitively with death and the afterlife, but still manage to be wonderful family films.
ReplyDeleteAn overlooked pixar movie is Planes, very similar in plot to Cars with one exception, I believe it's Burt Lancaster that plays a 2nd world war aircraft that's carrier based that suffers from PTSD and his story unfolds not as a plot device but a grounding of his own character, it's harrowing and shows that Pixar is not afraid of adult themes
DeleteYou two are much more up to date with Pixar. Not heard of half of these films. My Grandson watched an animated film about a Maori prince I think done in a peculiar anumated style. He chucks some food in his boat and shouts Boatsnack! Its become a family catchphrase, often changed to suit the occasion!
Delete'Planes' isn't a Pixar film, it was a cash in by Disney, in he same style - possibly before they bought out Pixar.
ReplyDeleteNot Pixar, but definitely worth seeing is 'Kubo and the Two Strings' - it uses a wonderful animation style, that is akin to stop motion and papercraft. Possibly a little unsettling for the very young, but beautiful to watch.
