It was heartwarming to see Wotan's recent post about his Dad and his love of trains, and the HO/OO scale automobiles he collected over the years.
We rarely got any Minix cars here in the States, but there were other brands, including my favorites, WIKING/VIKING of Germany and EKO of Spain.
Here’s a few quick snaps of my tiny HO railroad, with some vintage automobiles placed about.
The first pic is an EKO gas truck, purchased on eBay ten years ago, still in its blister pack!
The three Mercedes in the last photo, and a couple of the other cars, are one-piece plastic toys from Multiple Toymakers, originally sold in a set called Automobiles of the World, which I dolled up as best I could. Enjoy!

Nice models, nice layout. Just one question, in the final photo, is the chap on the left taking his pet sheep for a walk ?
ReplyDeleteYes! How I ended up with HO scale livestock I'll never know, but it seemed like a good idea to add some animals to the city mix. I'm not even sure what that building is supposed to be, I made it into a sort of generic "civic center".
DeleteThats a grand little layout! I always wanted to do something like that, but never had the space. I love the little areas where it looks like something is going on, but the residents have nipped off for a teabreak!
ReplyDeleteYes, not too many folks milling about, as I only take them out for photo shoots, which is almost never! But the pix are deceiving - the layout is tiny, less than 4 by 8 feet, but I crammed a lot of buildings into that small space! Its basically my teenage RR layout which I managed to salvage and resurrect in the past twenty years.
DeleteThat's a really nice layout - well done!
ReplyDeleteAccording to google, Haltestelle is German for a stop, or place to get on and off buses or trams. Not sure if it also applies to trains.
ReplyDeleteThey look great Rob. Kind of atmospheric and even abandoned and deserted in part. Like a Lockdown! German layout forms seem to excel at this scale. I see Falke boxed and carded stuff a lot in model shops here. I may have a large Airport lounge similar to your buildings somewhere in the attic. I lived in Germany for a few years so I recognise the architecture. Yep, haltestelle is bus-stop. It could work for trains but so could the word stop too. Phlegedienst [pronounced flayger deenst] means literally wash-service or as we say, car wash. Kiosk is universal I think but these small outlets were and are a cultural phenomenon in Germany and much of Europe where kids get their sweets and some toys and adults their papers, fags and beer. My missus loves Kiosks and we may have a OO scale plastic one too somewhere. Thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteI meant Pflegedienst! Doh. An f.
