Do you go into charity shops in your part of the world? Do they exist? I know you have Thrift stores in the US. Are they any good for toy collectors? Not to everyone's taste, I personally like visiting them and can easily spend a day with the missus going in and out of them in a new town we've been to.
How about you?
Yes, regularly visit them. As shops become more and more selling the same things, charity shops offer a little of the unexpected -I even found my Dan Dare circular jigsaw in one.
ReplyDeleteI agree Andy. Normal shops lack surprises. Charity shops are full of them. I imagine if everyone was like me the High Street would wither away I'm afraid as I hate normal shopping. Dunno why.
DeleteI just view them as indoor flea markets.I find it is best to go in with an open mind.Maybe you may have a mental short list of things you would like to find, and that's ok.If you are looking for one specific object,no substitutes, then you are pretty much wasting your time.
ReplyDeleteIndoor flea markets, I like Bri. I've often thought that a 24/7 covered fleamarket where folks could just arrive and take a table for a few hours and then leave, replaced by new people selling and so on would be a good idea. I'd love to go to a flea market in the evening or even at night!
DeleteI like your idea.Interesting to think of the pros and cons.A bare bones, no frills building with merchants you don't have to pay( or perhaps must pay you)but then again, around the clock lighting,heating/cooling,and security are a must.Definite food for thought!
DeleteI like to pop in and look around, Woodsy, but for many years good charity shop finds have eluded me. Undeterred, I keep looking though. I'm far luckier at car boots, jumble sales and flee markets :)
ReplyDeleteYes, Charity shops finds are indeed more elusive. There's less stuff there than at a boot sale or flea market. Then again if there are 6 or 7 charity shops in a town centre then you may be lucky. Not sure High Streets like that many though but I do!
