A few weekends ago we visited the local car boot sale.
I came away with a very tall loose action doll.
The seller told me it was a Farah Fawcett figure of Charlie's Angels fame.
I didn't know the name of it myself but thought it might have been a Mego or similar. She was 18 inches tall and very unusual.
Once I got Farah home I googled her.
I couldn't find anything when searching for Farah Fawcett 18 inch doll.
I changed tack and added Bionic Woman as Farah was the late wife of Lee Majors, the Six Million Dollar Man.
It worked!
It isn't a Farah Fawcett doll at all!
Its a Jaime Sommers doll, the real Bionic Woman of the TV show [pic: Vectis]
The 18 inch action doll was called 18" Super Size Jaime Fashion Doll and made by Denys Fisher in 1977.
My Jaime is unboxed and missing all of her accessories like her ring, earrings, shawl and shoes but she does still have her gold evening dress for bionic nights out.
It is one of the more exciting finds I've made at a boot sale. For some reason they are often dolls, a Sindy dress being top dog of my finds. Or is that top doll?
I'm unsure if there were different releases of this Jaime figure in the US and UK though.
Does anyone know?
That wild mane and those crazy eyes make her look more like a "Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction "doll.Re- package her with a knife and "boiled rabbit"accessory.
ReplyDeleteha ha! I know what you mean. She doesn't really look like Lindsay Wagner at all Brian! I wonder if there is a Bunny Boiler action figure?
DeleteYours can be the first. All she basically needs is a black dress and one of Action Man's knives. The rabbit is purely optional.you can probably print a movie logo and character photo off the net and make your own packaging.People actually sell stuff like that on EBay these days.I think the rule is they have to declare the object homemade and One of a Kind.
DeleteI'm not that familiar with this 18 inch Jamie Sommers fashion doll, Woodsy, but I'd imagine it doesn't turn up very often. I've seen pics of the doll, but never managed to find one myself. It's a cracking vintage car boot toy find. Well done :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tone. I felt the thrill of the chase when I saw it. Not happened for ages!
DeleteYep, bet it was a buzz finding her! It's far more difficult to discover vintage toys at car boots nowadays. They do still occasionally turn up though. Keep huntin' them there booties, Woodsy... I'm sure there's more great stuff waiting to be found :)
