Little Miss Moonbase and her partner have gone to have a stall at a Sunday car boot sale this morning. Me and Missus Moonbase are babysitting baby Grandson.
We're kaput already and there's another 3 hours to go!
We used to love going to car boot sales and it got me thinking: what would I love to find at one if I could find anything at all?
I think it would have to be something along the following lines - I'm not after much! -
1. A whole box of loose Corgi Rockets, track and the Sky Park Tower, keys and everything so I could build a huge circuit round the front room and pretend I was 8 again! A few red-line Hot Wheels wouldn't go amiss either!
2. The entire run of TV21 comics, which I would spend the whole summer browsing through on a sun-lounger aided by a crate of cold Becks
3. A box of plastic Century 21 toys including the Nuclear Ferry in both its blue and white versions, together with the plastic Hover Tank over on Paul V's ace site and to finish maybe the gorgeous Submarine Aircraft Carrier, boxed or loose, I'm not fussy!
I could have said the Project SWORD Moon Base set but I think that Bill B would have found it before me and smuggled it home!
If all else fails I'd be happy with a copy of James Clavell's Shogun in paperback!
What would you love to find readers?
I'd happily settle for a once in a lifetime find of Mars Attacks gum cards like you found, Woodsy. Carboot finds really can't get much better than that. Although an old box spilling over with Madelman or Mego Super Heroes would come a close second. Sadly not the case at the bootie today though. I only found a single Marx plastic soldier. still, I'm very pleased I find him :)
ReplyDeleteHas ha, those Mars Attacks cards! I couldn't believe it Tone! I sold them on later which I regret now. We were poverty-stricken at the time with a small daughter and needed the moolah! So whats the Marx soldier you've found Tone?
DeleteI can certainly identify with what you say, Woodsy. I've sold things out of necessity, at a time when we were in an identical situation and needed the cash to get by. But maybe these things were sent our way to help us out during those tough times! I guess we aren't alone either... a lot of fellow collectors I know have walked down Priority Road as well. On the plus side... not all of us have had such an incredible find as you with those bloomin' Mars Attacks cards, ha ha... the gods of good fortune were with you that day.
ReplyDeleteThe Marx plastic soldier I found was from their vintage five inch range - WW2 kneeling French Infantryman. A modest but happy car boot find Môn capitaine, ha ha :)
Wise words Mister K. I did get to enjoy the Mars Attacks cards for some time before they funded our living expenses. To lessen the loss I bought myself a mint set of repro Mars Attacks a few years later when I'd got a promotion at work. i think they were the Renato Gelatto re-issue, which I still have in the attic. Your kneeling soldier reminds me of the church slogans which appeared every Sunday on a church bill board that was next to Dewsbury car boot. The most memorable was 'Long Standing Problem? Try Kneeling!'. Ha ha.
