I recently managed to pick up a re-issued large Imai Zero X
model, one that first appeared in 2007.
From what I can gather it’s more or less a carbon copy of
the original kit which came out in 1967.
I did get a close look at an original kit the last time I
visited Woodsy , and took a few photos for comparison.
Although the re-issue uses a different illustration and
carries a Captain Scarlet logo, this is simply an outer box, which has a detailed plan of the model on the rear of the package.
Inside is another box which again is more or less exactly
the same as the original with that fabulous Zero X illustration by Shigeru
Komatsuzaki.
This is what's inside the original box.
This is what's inside the re-issue box.
The only thing I can see of any significant difference is the decals, which are a lot sharper on the re-issue version.
The kit itself seems pretty much the same in either version.
Even the instructions are pretty much the same apart from a 'History Makers' logo on the lower left hand corner, and what appears to be different writing on the re-issue version.
My next job is to put this not - so - little beauty together.
A big job but it'll look superb Scoop. Was it hard to get hold of one?
ReplyDeleteMy mate Andy spotted it for me. It's a minter, I can't wait to put it all together :D
DeleteThe new re-issue Zero-x's come in both Captain Scarlet version and a Thunderbirds version.
ReplyDeleteOne other tiny detail is that the re-issues have writing on the bottom of the right side bottom of the inner box whereas the original inner one does not.
Is the only difference the name Captain Scarlet on the box SWhopper?
DeleteIn the die-cast versions the difference is a red label plus with the CS version you did not get an Alien rock robot.
ReplyDeleteThe large kit versions, I think the only differences is that the TB OX has a larger box, it has been a long time since I actually looked at these kits so I will try and look them up again.
