Arto's comment about his Blackarrow prompted me to post a gallery of SR 71 Blackbird toys I've seen over the years and archived the pictures. I'm sure there are many more and your pics are welcomed. The Blackbird has to be one of the most famous planes ever.
Here's a modern die-cast, which I made my own box for. I bought the toy in the train station of Garmisch-Partenkirchen around 2010. It came in a packet but the name of toy line eludes me.
A trio of Blackbirds; two die casts and a neat orange plastic one courtesy of the ever generous Mr. Paul Vreede.
One for Bill B because he likes tin so much!
A vintage Processed Plastics Blackbird.
The X-Men die-cast plane.
Fairly modern plastic Thunder Jets, which appear to be a Fruit premium!
The R2 from the SpaceX range [bottom left] in part of my first ever bundle I had as a collector bought as a bag-full at Doncaster Toy Fair circa 1990. There were no digital cameras so I 'photographed' them on my computer's scanner! I often wonder if kids recognised the R2 as being a Blackbird back in 1970? I had loads of SpaceX as a kid and it doesn't ring a bell. Maybe my parents might have known.
The Space Patrol 1 in another bundle of SpaceX I had.
and here's Arto's very own cool plastic Blackarrow, made in Hong Kong [anyone know any more about this toy?]
and coming right up to date, the Combat Mission Fighter Jet plastic friction toy in two colours. These are available now in toy shops, Amazon and other online toy stores. I got one on the Yorkshire coast in Formby last year! A seaside prezzie and modern SpaceX!
funny you should post this cornucopia SR-71's Woodsy as I just got done editing my Gay Toys SR-71 . Unless marked otherwise I believe the Processed Plastics Blackbird listed above is from Gay Toys - a company I know nothing about other than they made some nice plastic airplanes, cars, and trucks back in the day.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that ed, I'm not knowledgable about Gay Toys either although I have seen some more futuristic vehicles of theirs on Ebay. When the US Golden Astronaut's toy Space Command plane was released in 1970 [I think] do you think kids will have recognised it as a Blackbird?
