I was amazed when I first saw this tonight. I thought the white spaceship at the top was a basic Nuclear Ferry! Alas, its not but I'm sure it would make a good basis for one! Its certainly the closest to another Ferry shape I've seen in model or toy form besides the Century 21 original [pictured below] and the SpaceX miniature.
According to Dr. YoKai of Beyond the Sprues it would appear that it is one of the following parts, although I don't know which one: "the Airfix Vostok, Monogram US-USSR Missile set,Glencoe Obs.satellite, and fishing bobbers".
Has anyone got this white spacecraft kit?
You can follow Dr.YoKai's progress with this model project on Beyond the Sprues.
I used to have the airfix vostok and that is the white one in the picture. It is the vostok spaceship and the second stage of the launch vehicle.
ReplyDeleteThe white parts are from the Airfix Vostok. You can see all the parts from that kit here- http://www.model-making.eu/products/Vostok-1.html
ReplyDeleteits the Soyuz capsule on the top of the second stage of launch vehicle. its a great model, comes with a tiny Vostok 1, the Sputnik launch vehicle and the larger Soyuz too. its still available and well worth buying.
ReplyDeleteSorry, you're right, it is the Soyuz without its panels. The kit comes with the soyuz the vostok the nose shroud and a cosmonaut.
DeleteC'mon you dexterous modellers, someone has GOT to turn it into a Nuclear Ferry!
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be very big, probably Spacex sized.
ReplyDeleteYoure the man for the job Kevin! There's never been a model Ferry apart from Bill's excellent attempt some years back and my own shoestring sparkling water bottle contraption!
ReplyDeleteI don't have my kit anymore, otherwise it would be fairly straightforward.
ReplyDeleteI shall keep my eyes peeled!
