Well, its the end of the School Summer Holidays here in the UK and a sad day all round. Autumn is already biting at our ankles, its definately colder in the evening and the nights are slowly drawing in now that's September's skipping in. I know its still relatively warm and summer lasts till the 22nd September here but you can already feel the seasonal change in the air.
As a kid the end of the summer break would have meant the last of those endless hot days playing out but also moving up a year at School, a significant step forward for any nipper. I'm unsure what it means now I'm all growed up. To be honest I'd be glad if time'd slow down a bit and let me catch up!
Anyways, hope you all had a pleasant summer and can face the coming wind and cold with renewed vigour.
One thing on the horizon is the 7th Birthday of the blog on the 15th September - Yay! - and then the next stop is Halloween in October!
So, how was your summer? Did you get any toys and collectables? What does the Autumn and Winter mean for you and your hobbies?
Going back to school after the school hols also meant the autumn /winter Grattens catalogue arrived at our house so I could pick which annuals I wanted for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteAh, Scoop, Catalogues! the very stuff of childhood! Kays and Grattan, like old friends. Oddly enough, we've hardly ever toughed on UK catalogues on the blog. We should do!
DeleteThis summer was much better towards the end both weather- and collecting-wise. After a summer of drowned June & July, we (Sweden too) got the heatwave only in August. Boosted collecting nicely too.
ReplyDeleteWould you believe it Woodsy, when I first started school the summer vacation lasted from June 1st until the second week of September. Those were the days!
From June to September! That's a third of the year Arto! Wow, I bet you got a lot of serious playing with your toys done! Talk about civilised!
DeleteWoodsy, summer here means work, seemingly endless weeks of Red Flag and a host of other stuff. But the ever changing 'air show' makes it worthwhile. As autumn approaches we have a bit of a respite. Just the opposite of when I was a youngin' in school. New toys? Yup. I'll e-mail ya off-post and give ya a heads up.
ReplyDeleteAlas I'm unsure what you mean by Red Flag Ed. Here's its an insurance company! Yes, I imagine that you have great big skies over Lost Wages. I've been meaning to ask, have you ever been to Area 51 or Roswell? What's it like?

DeleteRe; Area 51 - never been there - only to the Area 51 gift store up at Amargosa Springs near where the site is located. Drove through New Mexico once, but that was a simple trip from one end to the other while traveling from Wisconsin to California. I nnever stopped to play tourist.
Wow, that Red Flag exercise sounds like the War Game to end all War Games! Must be amazing to see if indeed you can in such a big area.
DeleteAs for Area 51, sorry, I thought it was near you!
