Its always great when you're introduced to something new on the blog and it happened to me a while back when Scoop posted about his fabulous trip to Devil's End as featured in Dr. Who and The Daemons.
I'd never heard of Devil's End or The Daemons. I was always a part-time Dr. Who fan as a kid and never saw everything. However, my love of monsters and all things supernatural drew me to The Daemons, once Scoop had posted about it this summer. I still can't believe I didn't see it first time round!
The first thing I've done is to order the DVD for rental on Love Film. Mrs Moonbase and I love Scandinavian DVD box sets so they are coming first, with The Daemons following, hopefully for Halloween, which would be great timing! I was tempted to track it down on VHS as that's my favourite format but I don't need to own it, just see it.
Whilst searching I also saw a Daemons spin-off called Daemos Rising from 2004. If I like The Daemons proper then I might get hold of it. Anyone seen this spin-off?
In the meantime, I have been looking up The Daemons online. There's loads on You Tube including cast reunions and original location filming.
I doubt if anything I find will be news to proper Who fans but I stumbled across this You Tube clip from the old Tomorrows World TV show [which I loved!] explaining how some Who fans and the BBC managed to rescue and restore the Daemons. It's quite fascinating so I've posted it here. I think its 1992. Enjoy and thanks Scoop!
I remember watching it the first time round- the only thing is it relies on some rather rough special effects!
ReplyDeleteA write up at the time indicated that Roger Delgado was extremely well liked by the real villagers. Who as extras were asked to boo him as UNIT carted the Master off. But they wanted to cheer him because they found him such a nice bloke in real life!
