The first one is a very short video showing an actual working Space 1999 stun gun firing a laser which bursts a balloon. The stun gun and working Comlock were built by a very talented fan called Artur, who was quite happy to let me film it.
These highly detailed props were actually on sale and both, complete in carry case could be yours for around £500.
The second item was a Virtual Reality experience created by mega 1999 fan and computer wizard, Liam Goodison. Liam invited fans to have a go and experience a virtual 3D trip across the moon's surface driving a moon buggy around Eagle landing pads and a nuclear waste area.
I had a couple of goes myself and I have to say it was a awesome experience. You really do feel like you're driving across the surface of the moon, occasionally stopping to gaze up into space and take in the sheer size of the Eagles landing and taking off.
Even Nick Tate aka Eagle pilot Alan Carter enjoyed revisiting the Moon. The chap with Nick in the photo is Liam Goodison himself, the creator of the visuals.
The 3D effect is created by special Oculus VR googles which really do fool the senses. Using headphones completes the experience.
Here's a short film showing the 2D effect.
How come VR tech, including Oculus Rift, still havent cracked the trick of preventing the user looking like a complete plank with a portable TV taped to their face?
ReplyDeleteThat was amazing! I'll be honest, I'll put up with looking like a plank if it means I can drive around the Nuclear Waste Disposal area and watch Eagles taking off and landing. The whole event seems brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your coverage, we have a page on Facebook if anyone is interested https://www.facebook.com/space1999tvc/
ReplyDeleteNo problem Liam. Let's hope another Alpha con is too long off.
