This is a second issue Dinky Eagle Transporter I picked
up a few weeks back at the Reebok Toy Fair.
Apart from the missing odd thruster and chipped paint
I don’t think it’s a bad example for under twenty quid.
While I was there other dealers were asking at least
twice as much for Eagle’s that were missing half their parts and most of their
paint. I can never get my head round some dealers pricing structure.
My original Dinky Eagle which I bought in the mid-seventies
is an amalgam of a green transporter and a white freighter. It’s pleasing to the eye but not how Dinky released
it. So I thought I’d add an example to my collection.
youll have Bill E jealous! hes still looking for a spare pod!
ReplyDeleteThe Dinky Eagle came out in Chester before the Granada region started showing Space:1999. I thought it was an odd looking thing and wondered why they had made a transporter with a detachable pod that was green, wasn't one Thunderbird 2 enough?
ReplyDeleteGood point, Kevin. I, too remember the Dinky Eagle coming out before I knew what it was. I must admit I was knocked out by the design, especially the detailed framework. I found it so different to previous Andersonesque vehicles , unaware at the time that Derek Meddings had left and these new craft were designed by BrIan Johnson.
ReplyDeleteMay have told this before but the Dinky Eagle on the shelf of our local toy shop was my Holy Grail back in 1976. Never got it at the time, so here we are.
ReplyDeleteDecades later, it was the all-white Eagle in an antique shop in Stockholm that sparked my old flame. Only later did I learn that it was hybrid. A beauty nevertheless!
Cheers Arto
Thinking about it , Arto , Dinky seemed to be generally reluctant to produce an all white toy believing it to be 'boring'. At least with the Eagle Dinky it gave you a chance to mix and match .
