Well, it's a warm June Sunday morning here at Moonbase and the living is easy. The sun is baking the regolith and I've put on my shades.
Being stationed on the Moon again I don't get to car boot sales as much. When I was Earthside I remember one particular fruitful summer Sunday in 2005 when I visited several.
Starting in Dewsbury my first find was an unboxed plastic cat sat at a table eating a fish! Small friction novelty vehicles have always appealed to me and this one went in the bag.

On to a different sale in Dewsbury, a table top sale outside the Church, I picked up a beautiful boxed game called Chutes Away by Marx from 1977.

The game featured a gorgeous twin-prop plane, which dropped small parachutes onto the board below. Anyone have this?

My final stop was Nostel Cricket Club boot sale on my way home, a fun summer sale full of families emptying their attics and sheds. Basking in the sunshine I noticed a a little Snoopy taking a bath! He turned out to be another neat small friction novelty vehicle, this time by Aviva.

Back then I was a toy dealer and all three gems were sold pretty sharpish. I only found out years later that the friction cat was actually an early JR21 toy and called 'Feasting Pussy'! Doh!
That was a fun Sunday. So much so, I'm going Earthside right now and heading for a boot sale! Which SWORD vehicle should I use? I need speed!
Do you have a memorable boot sale/ yard sale/ fleamarket visit readers?
Good luck Woodsy! I haven't been to a flea market, wellll, since my hair turned gray (back around 1880 or so)
ReplyDeleteI had Chutes Away, might still have it even as my folks never tossed anything out. I recall it being a bit loud after you wound it up but was fun to play once in a while.
