We never really mention autographs or memorabilia onced owned by celebrities. it's not something that I personally have gone in for in a big way although I do own a few bits and bats. the urge to collect autographs and celebrity memorabilia is completely understandable and judging by the huge queues at the NEC in Birmingham to have photo's signed at £15 a pop it's incredibly popular. Admittedly the biggest lines are usually for sports stars but screen stars like the David Carradine [Kung Fu, Kill Bill] and Ingrid Pitt [Hammer scream queen] drew the crowds too. as have previous incarnations of Doctor Who.
I suppose in terms of the space craze astronaut signatures and memorabilia would be an interesting area to collect and would have considerable shelf life. Thinking of space toys, comics and TV series, worthwhile targets would be signed art, actors' autographs, scripts, lobby cards, artists' proofs and stuff onced owned by famous people.
I don't have much but I'm pleased with what I have: a Famous Monsters magazine once owned by Screaming Lord Sutch, a book on Japanese Armour from the library of the late John Entwistle [bassist with the Who], a signed photograph of Wednesday from the Addams Family TV series, Lisa Loring, a couple of B - horror movie actors [I forget who!] and a keyring from the estate of Forest J. Ackerman, publisher of Famous Monsters of Filmland.
Quite by chance I have found a few signed items in charity shops but nothing too exciting: an autobiography signed by comedian Mike Yarwood and an autographed Shirley Bassey LP. Obviously there is no record of provenance with finds like these, which affects the sale price greatly should you decide to sell as I did.
My top signed item has to be a Project SWORD Cape Kennedy box lid, which I took round the celebs at Fanderson's TV21 in 2010. I managed to get signatures from Mike Trim, Shane Rimmer, Alan Shubrook and Dennis Nicholson. The late great Mr. Anderson saw just 21 fans via a lottery and alas, I wasn't one of the lucky ones. Still, I was chuffed with what I got and it's a very personal memento of a really fab weekend in Bristol. Yours truly modelling said box lid below.
Has anyone else got any autographed items or memorabilia?
