Cabinet Capers
A recent ramble round a local emporium threw up a few interesting items in the cabinets and shelves.
Some great loose figures: Blackstar, Fighting Furies, She-Ra and more.
I bought a David Bowie LP for a diver, the World of David Bowie, one I didn't have anymore.
Anything here for you?
A LOOK AT MY 22" ROUND 2 CARGO EAGLE
Some photos of my Round 2/MPC 22” Cargo Eagle.
Round 2’s Cargo Eagle (MPC 838) first appeared in 2017, following on from their 22” Eagle Transporter release in 2016. A second version (MPC 900) came out in 2023 with slightly altered box details.
The flat-bed cargo pod can be displayed as either a pallet carrying the supplied 4 Nuclear cannisters, or as a winch Eagle with detachable magnetic hoist.
I’ve made a landing pad from wood and MDF, which still needs detailing, and is based on the Sixteen 12 display plinth. I plan to use this when I do some proper diorama photos.
The astronauts are from the Round 2/MPC Space:1999 Nuclear Waste Disposal Area 2 kit (MPC 860/06).
Legacy of Monsters: Kurt's Kaiju
I've taken up Apple TV's free 7 day trial, so I could watch Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
I'm still on Season 1, very nearly done and in the main enjoying it. Overall I'm sure anyone who's seen it would agree that more monsters couldn't harm this series and less talking.
Having said that it's not a film, so Apple have to inevitably pad it out and like all modern series its aimed at teenagers and, whilst searching for thier Dad among the titans, are often very emotional and talkative.
An olive branch to oldies like us is the great Kurt Russell, essentially the leading man in season 1 and his sci-fi chops shine through. Every time he appears I think is The Thing, Escape from New York and so on. Kurt and Kaiju are a superb combo!
To capture a younger vote Kurt's real life chiselled chinned son plays his character as a young man. Talk about role reversal! You'll know this Russell, he was the President-appointed Captain America after Steve Rogers hung up his shield before the Falcon got it.
The kaiju clock is ticking and I need to finish season 1 and begin 2, which has only just started. I've got till Wednesday night!
Are you watching Legacy of Monsters readers?
Bandai O Tester
The Japanese sense of style and design of sci-fi vehicles is astounding.
I've never seen an O Tester before.
Like a flying steam iron!

A Living Hot Wheels!
LONE STAR STINGRAY CAP GUN
Here's the Lone Star 'Stingray' cap pistol, based on Lone Star's a popular and familiar space gun design for kids in the fifties and sixties.
Lone Star did some slight retooling, adding the 'Stingray' name on each side, and repainting it in light turquoise green and orangey red. colours.
Here's the box art showing Troy armed with his Lone Star pistol, and Stingray floating passed Marineville. What Stingray could fan in the sixties could resist that?
TV Century 21 offered a Lone Star cap gun as a competition prize in issue 38, dated October 9th, 2065.
The Dan Dare Dare, Space Ranger and Batman versions of the Lone Star die-cast gun.
In 1994, the Lone Star pistol made a cameo appearance on the front cover of 'Stingray' comic, thanks to artist, Steve Kyte, a long time fan of Gerry & Sylvia Anderson's series.
FAIRYLITE STINGRAY WATER PISTOL
Continuing on from my JR21 Thunderbird water pistol post, here's the Stingray water pistol from Fairylite toys.
Unlike the Thunderbird pistol which looks like what we saw in the series, Fairylite chose to do a unique moulding of Stingray in a light blue colour.
The water jet comes out of the front, and doesn't have the multi-directional part seen on later re-issued versions of the Stingray water pistol which don't have the 'Stingray' name on the sides, and are usually in a red or yellow plastic.
