ED'S SWORD DAY TARHEEL ORANGE NOVA ROCKET III

Woodsy and Fellow Moonbasers,

Here's the second offering for the Project SWORD anniversary, the Tarheel Nova III.

I have both the Nova II and Nova III listed as Tarheel Part No. 5918 which I suspect is incorrect.

The Tri-ang figures shown with the craft make for a good size comparison. These Tarheel toys are more appropriate in size to HO scale or 1/72 scale figures than most of the vehicles and spacecraft Tri-ang offered.

My sample has no packaging and is missing the canopy.

This is one of three plastic Novas from Tarheel, all inspired by either Triang SpaceX or Thunderbirds and very close cousins of Project SWORD toys, which Tarheel also issued in North America.

THE PROJECT SWORD TOY THAT NEARLY WAS!

Over the last 15 years there have been many revelations about Project SWORD toys.

Like all SWORD fans the prospect of finding a new SWORD toy has enthralled us above all.

One of my absolute favourite revelations was the research my friend Paul Vreede did into the Hover Tank and his efforts paid off spectacularly when he unearthed registration documents for an actual Hover Tank toy!

Sadly, the toy was never produced but you can see the results of Paul's fantastic sleuthing on his own brilliant SpaceX Toys website.

Here's my first entry for the blog's Project SWORD anniversary celebration. Over the years a few SWORD-related toys have managed to fly into Vegas Base, and I've captured pictures of them for the photo album.

THE PROJECT SWORD TOYS THAT NEVER WERE!

In 1969 this trade article appeared.

SWORD collectors will have been excited by the new of a new Project SWORD toy described there, the Lunar Climber.

Alas, the Lunar Climber wasn't a Project SWORD release.

Nevertheless, it was a cool Century 21 Toys release and by the power of the internet here it is today!

The other toy mentioned in the article was the Moonship, which is described as not being Project SWORD.

That was correct but again its a wonderful Century 21 Toys entry anyway and by the power of Helsinki Base here it is, both red and blue versions, one boxed.
