I adore this magazine cover from 1981. Smack in the cold war it's got that ace space station and the super cool space shuttle, that's so reminiscent of the Nuclear Ferry front taxi.

Spiralling Out of Control

Good Lord, I had one of these in the Sixties! 

Was it called Spiral Art!

This modern one is basically the packaging box with a small motor attached to it and sent through the post like that!

I love how my daughter has framed Moonbase Junior's and Miss's pictures.

I recently saw this small plastic figure in my daughter's birthday party favours stash for her kids.

Initially I thought it was Wilmer Flintstone.

Turns out its Tinkerbell the fairy!

Either way, these cheapo party figures you can get seem fine as toys to me. Has anyone used anything like this in their modelling or toy repairing?

LOL's BANGIN' CAR

We picked up this for Miss Junior. It's a large LOL plastic car. Very cool, it's got working lights and a huge boot that turns into a trailer.

Like a massive Hot Wheels redline, little Miss loved it too!

I'm not a video gamer and never have been but greatly enjoyed the current TV series FALLOUT being aired in full on Prime.

I understand its based on a game. I'm impressed!

I found the sunny Fifites Hollywood/ post-nuclear apocalypse story totally compelling and the imagery was just stunning. The whole thing really benefits from an outstanding performance from actor Walton Goggins as the Ghoul. His mesmeric 1950's smile somehow harks back to the golden days of Hollywood and I was equally hooked by his alter-ego, the loathsome ghoulish gunslinger.

For me merging future steampunky tech in a Fifties America made for compulsive viewing.

I wonder what it was like playing the actual video game, which is now thirty years old I think!

A rip-roaring TV start, I really hope there's a Season 2 of Fallout.

SKY WINGS SR-71 WITH DRONE BY PAUL ADAMS

A recent addition to my die-cast aircraft collection is this Motor Max Sky Wings SR-71 with D-21 drone. Strictly speaking, the carrier aircraft is a variant of the A-11, called the M-21, rather than a true SR-71.

The D-21 was a Mach 3 class, unmanned drone carried on the back of the M-21. It was launched, and flown over especially dangerous sites.

The idea was that after its photographic run, the drone would return to friendly airspace, eject its film canister, and self-destruct. The film then being picked up.

The D-21/M-21 programme was abandoned after a fatal crash, but the D-21 was used operationally from converted B-52 bombers. The programme ended in 1971.

This model is unusual for a modern die-cast toy in being all-metal, apart from the plastic undercarriage. However the fins are a very loose fit.

The M-21 carrier aircraft is 117 mm long, with a 60 mm wingspan. There are no clear parts

It is painted gloss black, and carries US Air Force markings in white. The US star and bar markings are upside down on both sides of the fuselage - the stars should point upwards.

The tail carries the Lockheed Skunk Works insignia on the fins. The only markings under the model are the number A210, and CHINA, both cast-in.

The D-21 is 41 mm long, with a wingspan of 19 mm. It is all-silver, with no markings.

There is no display stand, but the model runs along nicely on its wheels. A really nice, and unusual, variant of the Blackbird family.

Cost me a Packet

 I dug this JAWS 2 crisp packet up in the 90s near our house. The dog sniffed it out.

I had a big pile of packets and ephemera like this in my old toy stall.

It's old but not as old as my Golden Wonder Kung Fuey snack bag from the early 70s. I scoffed the bacon and mushroom snacks and framed the empty bag at the time.

The packet is displayed with my Jager Toys Kung Fu doll header card. I think it was a simple hollow plastic 12 incher with a basic cotton karate suit and belt.

Sadly the doll walked.
