HEY, HEY, IT'S THE NEW MONKEES (PLASTIC KIT)

 While it's fair to say that most people of a certain age will have heard of manufactured TV band, The MONKEES and maybe watched the sitcom when they were young.

But did you know that there was a new pre-fab four, The New MONKEES, who appeared in their own TV sitcom, and even released an album, way back in 1987.

Sadly,  for the reboot, the series only lasted for 13 episodes and the group of musicians then went their separate ways.

I only came across this series, which, to be honest I'd never heard of until I saw this kit box which featured the New MONKEES new Monkeemobile, a Mustang GT. 

It doesn't look a bad kit, but I think I prefer the original Dean Jeffries custom Pontiac GTO! 

For anyone who would like to see the New MONKEES sitcom, I believe there's a couple of episodes on You Tube you can hunt down. 

MEGO'S KING KONG THE LAST STAND KIT

Further to the information I sent in on King Kong, here are some photos from the internet of the Mego King Kong - The Last Stand kit.

This kit was based on the 1976 re-make of King Kong. It was a simple snap-together model, No Glue Necessary. 

It shows King Kong standing astride the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York, as in the movie poster. He has a Lockheed F-104 Starfighter jet in one hand, and Jessica Lange in the other.

The end of the box says Manufactured Exclusively For Mego Corp... In The British Colony of Hong Kong. King Kong from Hong Kong. 

Interesting that the box says manufactured for rather than by Mego, so the actual maker seems not to be given. Kit number 74040, released in 1976. It does not look as though this kit has ever been re-issued ?

It now sells for several hundred US dollars on Ebay, with only one kit listed below $299. Plus postage.

These two You Tube videos include a 1970s vintage TV ad for two King Kong kits by Mego.

Although the Mego Museum site says the King Kong and Giant Snake kit was not actually produced, despite being advertised on TV, at least I assume the ad was shown on TV.

Apart from a photo on the MM site, there does not seem to be anything else on this kit.

SPACE:1999 JOINS LOOK-IN

As reader Mish, mentioned the first issue of Look- In that featured Space: 1999, here's a reminder of the 1999 features inside.

Look In issue 38, dated 13th September, 1975:

The front cover art by Italian artist, Arnaldo Putzu, who also worked on cinema posters.  One particular favourite of mine is from the film, Get Carter.

EAGLEMOSS EAGLES

 Some photos of each of the three Eaglemoss Eagles that have been released so far.

The models are made of ABS plastic and around 10" long. The Pods are fixed to the superstructure, and the most obvious point of contention with some is the light grey coloured hull!

I've already blogged about their high and low points,  but overall they appear to have gone down reasonably well with collectors.

I certainly like them, in spite of certain quality control issues.

Hopefully they've sold enough to merit future releases.

WHITE DWARF COVERS: MONSTER LIFTS

I was intrigued by these old White Dwarf covers I saw online. 

I only ever owned one or two White Dwarfs and they were really early issues before colour art covers came in like these.

What struck me about these three is the art lifted from other sources, so I'll have a g at ID'ing them, which is always fun.

This cover from 1979 is clearly Wolfman, but is it lifted from elsewhere? I'll leave that one for readers if you fancy having a bash?

Turning to this cover I had thought it was from an Eerie or a Creepy comic by Warren but alas its not. Does anyone know if this was used somewhere else?

This final one from 1980 I do know. I read a paperback by Mark Ronson called the Ghoul a few years back with the same cover. Its from 1980 too!

THE MOTHER OF ALL QUEEN COLLECTABLES

Music collectables sometimes get a mench on MC. Yesterday I saw a future one I reckon. At well over £300 there can't be too many of them around. A friend brought it over to show me, a limited edition box set of all of Queen's studio LP's all re-issued in minty coloured vinyl along with a large lustrous coffee-table book. 

All the albums - about 12 maybe - and the book were neatly packed inside a bespoke LP case like the ones we all had in the Seventies. It weighed a ton and came in a neat card slip-over sleeve. An amazing set and deffo a collectable of tomorrow, if not today!

I was never a huge Queen fan. I did listen to them as a teenager if they were on somewhere but I never bought any of there stuff. I was just too into heavy rock and Queen weren't heavy. I did like Seven Seas of Rye and a few other tracks like Ogre Battle and Prophet Song but the whole operatic thing they developed put me off. Obviously being a guitar fan I did appreciate Brian May's memorable licks.

I remember seeing them on TV when Live Aid was on and yes, I too thought Queen did a barnstorming set. Maybe their finest moment as they conquered the whole world.

I once sold a Seventies white fold-up designer lamp on Ebay. It was only later that I saw the very same thing on Freddie Mercury's piano performance during Bohemian Rhapsody on You Tube! Pity I didn't see it it earlier, I would have mentioned it in my listing and got a few more quid maybe! A definite Queen collectable, ha ha!

The Sounds of the Weird-Ohs and Silly Surfers LP Records

                The Sounds of the Silly Surfers and the Weird-Ohs was a 1964 vintage LP by Mercury Records with six songs on each side inspired by the Hawk Silly Surfers and Weird-Ohs plastic kits. A total of 27:15 of pure weirdness. This item from You Tube offers the entire record for your listening pleasure.

There were 12 Weird-Ohs kits in total, and there does seem to be a Weird-Ohs only record with a song for each character. This just shows the album cover.

There was a much later compilation CD called That California Sound, released in 2013. This item lists the songs on the CD, all 12 Weird-Ohs, but not the Silly Surfers.
