I was intrigued by these old White Dwarf covers I saw online.
I only ever owned one or two White Dwarfs and they were really early issues before colour art covers came in like these.
What struck me about these three is the art lifted from other sources, so I'll have a g at ID'ing them, which is always fun.
This cover from 1979 is clearly Wolfman, but is it lifted from elsewhere? I'll leave that one for readers if you fancy having a bash?
Turning to this cover I had thought it was from an Eerie or a Creepy comic by Warren but alas its not. Does anyone know if this was used somewhere else?
This final one from 1980 I do know. I read a paperback by Mark Ronson called the Ghoul a few years back with the same cover. Its from 1980 too!
Not sure who the artist is though. You?
I think that first one is a quick fix-up of a still from Oliver Reed's 'Curse of the Werewolf'... but I can't find an example of it being used elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteYes! Olly Reed! Of course! Well spotted KG!
DeleteThe Ghoul is Les Edwards. He has a site with loads more luvvly stuff at http://www.lesedwards.com/galleries/vintage/the-ghoul/1255
ReplyDeleteWhite Dwarf 16 is also a Les Edwards but repurposed from a mag called Savage Heroes
ReplyDeleteThe werewolf is by Eddie Jones - it's a flipped image from the movie as noted. Nice art tho.
ReplyDeleteFabulous info Mike! Thanks ever so much! Mysteries solved!
DeleteGlad I could help buddy!
