While it's fair to say that most people of a certain age will have heard of manufactured TV band, The MONKEES and maybe watched the sitcom when they were young.
But did you know that there was a new pre-fab four, The New MONKEES, who appeared in their own TV sitcom, and even released an album, way back in 1987.
Sadly, for the reboot, the series only lasted for 13 episodes and the group of musicians then went their separate ways.
I only came across this series, which, to be honest I'd never heard of until I saw this kit box which featured the New MONKEES new Monkeemobile, a Mustang GT.
It doesn't look a bad kit, but I think I prefer the original Dean Jeffries custom Pontiac GTO!
For anyone who would like to see the New MONKEES sitcom, I believe there's a couple of episodes on You Tube you can hunt down.
With the exception of The New Avengers, (and possibly New Captain Scarlet), does "The New" anything ever really work?
ReplyDeleteNot generally Kev. I suppose 'new' Doctor Who worked (for some), as did the 'new' Battlestar Galactica, but I'd have to concur they really went under the 'reboot' banner, didn't they.
DeleteAll new to me too Scoop so thanks for that. Every day's a school day! The New Monkees do look like the Big Hair decade they hail from and alas, the Mustang GT looks boring compared to their predecessor's fabulous GTO, which I adored as a die-cast toy back in the Sixties. Oddly enough I picked up the Airfix version of the vintage MPC kit circa 2005. It was a built-up I seem to recall and then amazingly a month later a friend of mine gave me the empty Airfix box he'd found in his attic! I had kit and box and both went on my toy stall. They looked great!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they did, Woodsy. I've still got an unmade MPC kit that I need to make time for.
DeleteThose 'New Monkees' look pants !
ReplyDeleteIts the striping on the car I can't fathom. Is it meant to look like marble?
