SANTA NEEDS YOU!

As always the Missus and me will get each other a book at Christmas. Each orders a book that the other wants.

The Missus wants UK comedian Bob Mortimer's autobiography And Away and I want a book on Superfast.

Needing to be inexpensive I've seen this softback book by Charlie Mack online and wondered if anyone has it already? 

I want lots of colour photographs of the toys but can't tell if this one has them. It's also a Schiffer book from the USA. Will there be UK Superfast toys not covered do you think?

Any advice would be welcomed before I send the Missus the link.

AN ETERNITY

I went to the pictures this week. I've not been to the cinema for ages. Hard to believe I used to go every week.

As always I went with my cinema buddy, this week to see super heroes, the Eternals. The screening we went to was a 5pm showing at Cineworld, so we had time to get a bite to eat beforehand. The current KFC TV ad campaign where gravy is poured over everything had worked his magic on us so we ate the Colonel's chicken.

We settled down for the film, which at 2 hours and 40 minutes was a long one. As soon as the lights went off I fell asleep! Going to the flicks after work is always risky!

Thirty minutes later I woke up and tried to get into the remaining 2 hours + of the film. I really struggled and I don't think my sleep was the reason.

The Eternals is a an extended spandex mess and really quite boring. Its hard to say why but for me it just was. I wasn't alone. My buddy thought so too. Not even Angelina Jolie could rescue it.

I imagine Jack Kirby's original super hero comics were much much more exciting.

Despite the movie being a let down I enjoyed getting out a lot.

GOLDEN GIFT IDEA

If you are at a loss as to what to put on your Christmas list this year then maybe a decent little stocking filler is the old Culpitt Book of Cake Decoration. 

There's some great pictures of LP golden astronauts, which Culpitts used as cake decorations.

There always seems to be one or two of these books on Ebay and often relatively cheap!

Aurora Kit Collection

Hi

               Watching one of Max's videos, he mentioned a new You Tube video by Aurora collector and enthusiast Philip Ceparano.

Plastic model collection - YouTube

     He has a stunning collection, boxed and built models on display. Including some super rare models, and even the non-kit items. This man has everything, box variations, and factory built display models. I doubt there is a better Aurora collection anywhere in the world. Well worth a look.  A great companion to the Thomas Graham book on Aurora Model Kits.

TINPLATE TRAFFIC CONTROL SET

I visited a friend’s house recently, and we played “Show and Tell” with some of his vintage toys, all saved from childhood. I thought MBC readers would like to see pix.

Traffic Control Set: From Hungary (I think?) and/or marketed by Technofix Germany, this is a very cool layout with many routes for the car and the bus to travel. 

Even better, thanks to some buttons and levers, the cars can be made to stop and take different routes. This one is missing all the upright accessories like road signs and stop lights, and the levers are non-working in most cases, but the vehicles still roar around the track until they bump into each other! 

And that litho is too cool for words...

HAS THUNDERBIRDS GONE?

While there are still plenty of fans of the original Thunderbirds TV series, I'm not sure now whether there is still much of an interest in the CGI Thunderbirds are Go version . I believe repeats are still being shown on early morning on ITV, here in the UK, so maybe there is with younger viewers.

I must admit, I still like the toys, but apart from that I've pretty much left it behind.
