While there are still plenty of fans of the original Thunderbirds TV series, I'm not sure now whether there is still much of an interest in the CGI Thunderbirds are Go version . I believe repeats are still being shown on early morning on ITV, here in the UK, so maybe there is with younger viewers.
I must admit, I still like the toys, but apart from that I've pretty much left it behind.
What about you?
Yep, pretty much the same. I was going to collect it on dvd but didn't bother in the end.
ReplyDeleteI got the first 13 episodes on DVD during the series initial run, but I can'tremember ever watching it!
DeleteSaw the first episode, didn't bother after that, though I'm not exactly the (young) target audience!
ReplyDeleteI suppose that's one of the problems these days, everything has to have a target demograph, Andy.
DeleteSorry Scoop, but your CGI work is nowhere near as good as your photography.
ReplyDeleteThat TB5 looks far too real !
Ha, ha! Thanks Mish...I think;D
DeleteWARNING! INCOMING OLD PERSON RANT!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to like TAG and as the show was made by long time fans who had formed Weta Workshop, I thought they would show a similar love. However, the arch hipness of TAG was at the expense of the original Thunderbirds.
I think a perfect example was the episode "Designated Driver" which features FAB 0, the "old" car the Tracy boys all learned to drive in.
Intended as a love letter to the original series, it instead spends it's running time dissing the legacy in an attempt to show how new is much better than old.
The final shot of the old pink Rolls Royce stuck upside down in the driveway is a perfect crystallisation of the film makers underlying attitude.
The fact that this was perpetrated by massive Fans, rather than snot-nosed kids just showed me how wrong they'd got the whole idea.
Hrrrmph! I'm off to get a nice cup of cocoa....

I tried and failed to get my 4 year old Grandson Junior into TAG, although he loves the toy vehicles! For me, it has to be the original series I'm afraid. Just re-show it like they did in the early 90's.
ReplyDeleteI'm told that ITV are reluctant to show the original series now because of what's called toxic branding. I assume that means that those in charge think showing the two series will confuse the viewer! Plus, I suspect they'll think the sight of puppets apparently smoking cigarettes might send out the wrong signals to any younger viewers.
