MISSIONS OR NOT?

Is anyone watching MISSIONS?

Its a TV drama in French with sub-titles and concerns a mission to Mars.

Part of the BBC4 Space week I was really looking forward to it.

Alas, after two 25 minute long episodes its been a disappointment and I'm unsure if I'll carry on watching.

For some reason it seems a bit cheapo and the mars ship images remind me of a cheesy series I used to watch after coming back from the pub Friday nights in the 90's, LEXX. Oddly enough, I enjoyed LEXX. Remember it?

RETREATING TO THE GARDEN

I'm blogging to get away from the Royal Wedding taking over the TV. No offence intended to the couple or their fans I'm just not interested at all, although I do wish them a long and happy life.

Missus Moonbase is watching so I'm going to take the dog in the garden and clean some old toys the Missus bought for the Grandson at the local boot sale this week.

There's a Little Tikes car set, a Fisher Price helicopter [with partly corroded battery unit] and a beautiful wooden trike.

My laptop may come too with a large mug of coffee.

This is the old Imai Kagaku Thunderbirds Recovery Vehicle kit with wind-up motor.

 Aoshima has recently released a much bigger and better version of this great design.

DAIYA ASTRO SPACE RACER AND PROBE FORCE THREE

Ages ago I established the likely link between the Otaki Monster car kit and the Project SWORD Probe Force 3. The origin of them all is the Green Monster car, famous in US rocket car history. Here's a short film courtesy of You Tube.

And finally a You Tube clip of the Daiya Astro Space Racer tinplate car, another likely relative of Probe Force 3 and the Otaki Monster car, as they all share the similar bulbous engines and lateral exhaust vents.

To finish here is a nice shot of the Probe Force 3 itself released in 1967 by Century 21 Toys.

CORGI JET DRAGSTER: A GREEN MONSTER?

This die-cast Corgi Silver Streak looks superb in this online picture.

It's also called the Swedish Jet Dragster.

I'm unclear about its Scandinavian roots but it does remind me of the Arfons Green Monster shown top below on this old US poster. What an April that must have been!

The Arfons Green Monster was the inspiration for the Japanese kit by Otaki

Followers of Project S.W.O.R.D may recall that Otaki's Green Monster lead to the look of the Probe Force 3.

I love the thought that the Corgi Silver Streak might also be related to the Probe Force 3!

Does anyone know the story of the Corgi toy?

Its Friday night here in the UK and time for an evening meal. 

Its going to be grilled bread-crumbed cod and salad. A cold beer will make up for the lack of fat in this diet dish!

It may not be possible with the dates but its an absolute deadringer for Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry from 1971!
