century 21 submarine aircraft carrier toy: did it really go underwater?

We love the Submarine Aircraft Carrier at Moonbase. Its a blog legend. Its even on our masthead!

So, I've just re-read the wording on the box for this ubercool toy on pictures we have on the blog I might add as I not a member of the owners' club alas.

On the box end beneath the toy's name I was amazed to see the words 'under water'!

OK, I knew it had a propeller and was called a submarine but I never imagined that it could be actually played with underwater!

Its the collectors dilemma isn't it, thinking that fabulous toys were played with and especially in water! Think of the damage! Surely it would ruin the friction drive?

How cool though to shoot rubber ducks with Century 21 missiles!

Does anyone remember playing with one in water, maybe in the bath or maybe a sink or even a paddling pool?

SPACE 1999 AT SMALLSPACE

I've put these up before but someone asked me to give them an airing so here's a few photos I took at last year's excellent Smallspace event, featuring quite a few models from Space 1999, as well as special guest Brian Johnson.

land of the giants mystery toy truck

Just watching an excellent episode of Land of the Giants called Ghost Town.

Basically its about a model town where an eccentric but affable old man keeps his 'little people' captive. The tension is created by his very sadistic Granddaughter Pandora, who likes to set fire to the streets.

One of the model cars used in the episode is this robust looking light blue pick-up seen here.

The same vehicle also appears life-size too.

Anyone know what the vehicle is and the make of the toy?

Kevin D's Scratchbuilt Planet of the Apes Spacecraft

Hi, I've just finished a scratchbuild of the ship from the first two Apes films. (A slightly different version appears in the third film and the tv show). The model is 30 cm long and made from plasticard and milliput.

primal rage anyone?

Saw a modern flick called Primal Force last night about angry baboons. It was dire but I appreciated the aping around.

It reminded me of a much older horror flick called Primal Rage, again about cross gorillas.

Do you remember Primal Rage from the 1988?

There was a range of carded action figures and boxed vehicles too I think but theses came out in the mid-90's so may not have anything to do with the film. the movie was a horror film and not really for kids!

I may have sold a few of these figures and weapons over the years. Hard to say. The plastic parts of many action figure ranges all looked the same in the 90's!

I suppose Jurassic Park and Congo boosted this whole sub-genre of toys as crazed apes and armoured dinosaurs suddenly appeared in many ranges like Primal Rage and

I got some new batteries for my Moebius Seaview model so I thought I'd take a few snaps.

kenner tree houses: apes or ewoks?

The other day I remembered that my daughter had a plastic tree house when she was a kid.

I think it was Fischer Price or maybe Playskool. 

Shaped like a mushroom, it got me thinking about the most famous toy tree house, the Star Wars one by Kenner, a sort of Endor playset for Ewoks.

But there was another tree house wasn't there. Kenner again I think, the Planet of the Apes tree house.

Are these two Kenner tree houses related?

Anyone got them?
