SPACEX AND GOLDEN ASTRONAUT TOY GALLERY

This is an online gallery of pictures of SpaceX and Golden Astronaut toys I've either got or, mostly, seen on the net over the last few years. I've begun with the first scan I ever took, above, of my own collection in the 1990's before the days of digital cameras.

SPACEX SALVAGE ONE HAS LANDED!

Well, all five Bloggiversary carded SpaceX 2 Salvage Craft toys have been put together in the blog factory. Above are two minty fresh ones I snapped before they were shipped to two lucky SpaceXers in England last week. The last two should be united with their new owners by the weekend [ we may repeat this blog toy exclusive again if there is enough demand later in the year and we can get hold of more of the unpainted resin craft ].

Which brings me to the very first one sent out to Arto at Helsinki Base, for which we have received this most welcome e-Thankyou:

Dear Woodsy and Bill,

My Bloggiversary special S2 Salvage Craft was received today. 

What an astonishing joint tour de SWORD, a wonderful piece of miniature craftsmanship! Fully detailed through and through, and looks like fresh from the (Moonbase) factory with beautiful designed and laminated backing card. What better way to start collecting carded SpaceX than with this little beauty!

Congratulations for the achievement which once again made the Bloggiversary extra special. As a little way of saying thanks, took this piccy of the welcoming committee here at Helsinki Base :-)

RESCUE ME

The Spacex II R6 Rescue Craft is probably the smallest of all the second range craft, but very possibly one of the best. With a detachable fuel tank and ejectable capsule, its a little cracker. 

But, as often occurs with the new toys, theres a disparity between the card back illustration and the model. The card shows the ship jettisoning the tank, but seems to show a globe in between the tank and the ship. Also, the R6 has a nice chrome engine, which is not present on the final toy. Instead, when the tank is removed, we see a two pronged assembly protruding from the rear. Close inspection reveals it to be a cast from an Airfix Saturn V second stage J2 engine! Quite why the designers used a rocket engine backwards is beyond me!

Kevin kindly sent me a shot of the J2 from his Dragon model for comparison, but the back of the R6 is almost exactly the same size as the Airfix kit part. Go figure!

RUBBER SOLE

Back in the day I had loads of rubber insects and animals. Snakes, whales, fish, centipedes and crabs. But my favourites were large and miniature flies and soft rubber frogs. I can smell that niffy rubber now!

We have some exciting updates about Gerry Anderson's Firestorm. Please find attached a new press release with news that we hope your readers will be keen to hear. We have successfully reached our base funding goal on Kickstarter in just 96 hours and are now trying to reach our stretch goals to make a full pilot episode. 

Legendary Thunderbirds voice artists Shane Rimmer (Scott Tracy) and Matt Zimmerman (Alan Tracy) are making cameo appearances and the crew has been joined by Hollywood prop-maker Ken Palkow (Star Trek Into Darkness, Mission Impossible, Oblivion, X-Men: Days of Future Past).
