Tin Machine

I'm a sucker for Blackbirds. Well, any X-planes really. I often wonder what SWORD or SPACEX might look like in tin [sorry WOTE!], so this vintage tinplate YF-12 by Modern Toys [Vectis Auctions] tickled my fancy. Spacexy!

All Blackbirds are welcomed here. Even tin.

Year Four Newbie: The HG Toys Pleasure Cruiser Clone

Back in November last year I posted 'Run for your Lives' about the HG Toys version of the Space Glider. What I completely failed to notice at the time was their version of the Spacex Pleasure Cruiser pictured on the playset box! Well tonight I noticed it and can bring it your attention if, like me, you've never come across it before. It's basically a simple brown copy. This is what it looks like.

Here it is, albeit rather small, on the box of the HG Toys 1980 Alien Attack as featured over at the ubercool Plaidstallions site. Here it is again on the similar HG Toys 1979 Space Wars playset as pictured again over at the Plaidstallions website.

I've also found some close-ups onlineof what are elements of either of the two HG Toys sets including a veritable hive of little silver WOTANS being rounded up!

Perfectly Formed

Saurday morning at Moonbase and I'm drinking my first of several coffees. Just time for a quick blog. In my ongoing quest for the perfect miniature toy spacecraft I've come across these little beauties. Amazingly they area available wholesale for the board games industry at Rolco. Anyone got any more contenders?

Birthday Special: The Booster Pad: A New Model by Reader Mike B.

Hi Paul,

I’ve finished the booster pad, haven’t made a diorama for it yet though. My current project is a diorama [for something else. Ed]. Anyway, I’ve taken a few photos of the Pad for you on that, hence the background looks a bit sparse as yet as I’ve still got quite a bit of work to do on it. 

BTW Seeing you’re having a bit of a filmfest at the moment here’s a couple I watched this week – Project MoonBase (1953) - Juvenile story to compliment the acting but with some redeeming features like predicting a future where there is sexual equality (Well, a fifties version anyway) and some intriguing model shots for it’s time , featuring a rather nice space station.

The second film is The 27th Day (1957) which starred the late Gene Barry. This is quite intelligent sci-fi not unlike the original Day The Earth Stood Still with plenty of cold war paranoia, but unfortunately not much in the way of action . That being said I reckon it’s still well worth a watch.

Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind

To kick us off, this September is certainly turning out to be a great one for Swordheads on fleabay to fill gaps in our collections [maybe my own luck will change Ebaying this year!]. I blogged a pic of part of collection circa 2009 the other day. We've Tweeted the International Space Station!

Swordies, I'm genuinely chuffed by all the warm wishes I've recieved for our 3rd Birthday. Thank you! Not being able to contain these warm feelings and wanting to finish Year 3 with a little pazazz, I've done something a little wierd but totally exciting [at least for me!]. I've tweeted the International Space Station! Here's my tweet!

I am simply blown away by the idea that ISS astronauts might actually read this! Social Media in space! Two fabulous technologies merged together for the greater good. Brilliant.

Anyways, I never tweet, largely because I'm blogging every day, but I might have a bash from now on. I've still to get the hang of short pithy statements. Tweets do remind of Haiku!

Back to the ISS, I've actually tweeted NASA Flight Engineer, Dan Burbank. probably won't read it but that's really OK.

Now, onto Year 4 of the blog!

Three Years Old!

Well Swordies, hard to believe but the blog is 3 years old! Yep, on the same date back in 2008 I posted the first post, Dream Rockets.

Just want to thank Swordies everywhere who have supported the blog with comments, contributions and just plain reading!
